Access to starting point:
From the road Kobarid – Bovec in the village Žaga we turn towards the border crossing Učja. On the Italian side at the junction where the road branches right towards the saddle Karnica and Rezija, we continue left or straight in the direction of the town Videm/Udine. When the road crosses Beli potok / Rio Bianco, we follow it for a few hundred meters, then the road levels out and on the right side we will notice a larger building. On the right where a short road branches off we park. We do not park in front of the mentioned private building where it is marked that parking is prohibited. The starting point is located less than a kilometer before the pass Tam na Meji / Passo Tanamea.
Route description:
Near the starting point we will notice signposts for trail no. 711 which we follow. First we cross the road and head onto the cart track which is closed to traffic. We continue along the gentle cart track which we follow for about 200 meters, then we turn onto the left cart track along which the markings continue. When we come near the stream Meja (Torrente Mea) we continue right, then soon cross the stream and reach a junction.
Right along the stream continues the circular path Percorso Fuori, but we turn onto the left cart track along which we can already see signposts and information boards. At the signposts we continue straight in the direction of the shelter Ricovero ANA and the saddle Križ. Here the path turns into the forest and first leads past the dilapidated hut Casera di Menon. For a short time we still follow the poorer cart track which crosses the bed of a torrent and brings us to a junction. Here we leave the cart track and turn left onto a narrower path marked Rifugio ANA.
For some time we then climb quite steeply through the forest, then we reach a marked junction. Straight ahead continues the path towards the saddle Križ (Sella Kriz), but we turn sharply left in the direction of the hut Rifugio ANA.
From the junction the path becomes somewhat less steep and runs in an easterly direction. The path then brings us to a junction where right uphill leads a path marked with blue dots, but we continue straight ahead and follow the usual red-white markings. For some time we still cross slopes towards the east, then we reach signposts where the path turns decisively to the right. At this point there is also a less visible junction, as straight ahead continues an unmarked path.
We continue on the marked path which again starts to climb somewhat more steeply. Here we climb through a forest with many rocks, so the path is occasionally somewhat less obvious. However, there are many markings along the path, so there are no major orientation problems. For some more time we climb through the forest, then the path brings us to slopes mostly covered with grass and shrubs. Here beautiful views of the surrounding peaks start to open up. Such a path soon brings us to the hut Rifugio A.N.A Monteaperta or in Slovenian shelter Viškoroša.
From the hut we continue right along the wide path where the signpost directs us towards the village Monteaperta / Višcorška. Here we climb transversely towards the main ridge. A little before the ridge where the slope is again somewhat more wooded we reach a junction where there are also signposts.
Here we leave the wide path and turn onto a narrow path towards the ridge. On the grassy ridge we then continue left. There follows an ascent past a pre-summit on which there is a cross and a weather station. We continue the ascent along the scenic grassy ridge to the somewhat less prominent peak Lanževice on which there is also a cairn.
We continue along the ridge which in this section becomes somewhat wider and on the left northern side is somewhat gentler. The relatively gentle and somewhat less trodden path runs on the left side of the ridge and leads us past a wooden signpost where another poorly visible path from the shelter Viškoroša joins from the left. We continue on the marked path which continues to run near the ridge. We follow such a path all the way to the summit of Breški Jalovec where there is also a registration box.
