Rudnik v Topli - Matjaž Cave

Access to starting point:
A) We drive to Črna na Koroškem (from Ravne na Koroškem or from Šoštanj over the Spodnje Sleme pass), then continue driving towards Koprivna. Further on, we ascend alongside the Meža river, driving along it to the junction where the road into the Topla valley branches to the right. The path ahead leads along the Topla stream, and we drive up the ascending road to the parking lot by the entrance to the mine in Topla.
B) We drive to Luče (from Mozirje or from Kamnik over the Volovljek pass (Kranjski Rak)), then continue driving towards Logarska dolina. In the village of Solčava, we leave the main road towards Logarska dolina and continue driving right towards Podolševa, the Spodnje Sleme pass and Črna na Koroškem. Further on, the road loses its asphalt surface, and after a few kilometres at the junction in Podolševa we turn right towards Črna na Koroškem. The road, which further mostly ascends transversely, brings us after some time to the Spodnje Sleme pass. From the pass, the road begins to descend, and we follow it towards Črna na Koroškem. After descending into the valley for a few kilometres, at the junction we turn right towards Črna na Koroškem (left Koprivna). We descend the main road only briefly, then the signs for the Topla valley direct us left onto the ascending road. The path ahead leads along the Topla stream, and we drive up the ascending road to the parking lot by the entrance to the mine in Topla.

Path description:
At the end of the parking lot we arrive at the junction of two poorer macadam roads, where we turn sharply left towards Dom na Peci. Further, the road crosses the clearing above the parking lot and brings us only a little higher to the next junction, where we continue right (left entrance to the mine - 5 minutes). The path ahead leads us along the road, which gradually turns into a cart track; this brings us a little further to the next marked junction.
We continue along the lower wider cart track (slightly left Knipsovo sedlo), which further crosses the pasture fence and brings us behind it to the trough with water. The path ahead crosses a partly scenic meadow, behind which it enters the forest and begins to ascend more steeply. Higher up, the path leads us across the gully, behind it beginning to ascend through the grass-covered forest. A little higher still, we arrive at the spot where the sign »novo trasirana pot« directs us left into the steep slope (the old path is closed due to the landslide which prevents safe passage). We ascend steeply for a short time, then the path brings us to the aforementioned landslide, which we reach higher than the old path. Even on the new trail route, the passage is somewhat awkward and dangerous for slipping. On the other side of the landslide slope, the path again begins to ascend steeply and further returns to the refurbished old path. The path ahead crosses the slopes towards the east in a moderate ascent, and we follow it to the junction at the hunting cottage (we notice the hunting cottage on the right side, slightly set back from the path).
From the junction we continue towards Dom na Peci, and the path brings us after a few minutes to the next junction.
Here we continue right and descend in a few minutes of gentle descent to the cave of King Matjaž.
