Access to starting point:
From the Ljubljana - Jesenice motorway, take the Kranj - east exit and continue following the road towards Jezersko. Just a few kilometres after the Preddvor turn-off, on the right side of the road we will spot a transformer and a parking lot next to it, where we park. There are also signposts for the Čemšenik hut here.
Route description:
From the parking lot, first carefully cross the road, then head onto the footpath towards the Čemšenik hut. The wide path rises slightly to the Polajnar farmstead, where we join a road, which we follow to the right.
The road rises steeply immediately after the house, but a bit higher it loses its asphalt surface. Further on, the road levels out and turns slightly to the left, where it comes right up to the Čemšeniški stream. A little further, we cross the mentioned stream and immediately after it reach a marked junction, where we continue on the left road towards the Čemšenik hut. The road then starts to rise more steeply again and after less than 30 minutes of further walking brings us to the Čemšenik hut.
From the Čemšenik hut, continue towards Javorov vrh (signposted Javorjev vrh) on a path that enters the forest after just a few metres. The initially moderately steep path soon brings us to a torrent gully, along which it ascends for a while. Higher up, the path turns right and ascends even more steeply. We follow this fairly steep path, which runs through dense forest the whole time, all the way to a junction on the saddle between Potoška gora on the left and Javorov vrh on the right.
Continue right (left to Potoška gora and Sveti Jakob) on a moderately steep path that after a short ascent brings us to the south-western ridge of Javorov vrh, from which we get some views towards Cjanovci. The path goes just a little further back into the dense forest, where we reach the next well-marked junction.
Here, continue left towards Srednji vrh, Kališče and Storžič (straight to Javorov vrh 15 minutes) on a path that after a few more steps brings us to a pleasant spring. This is followed by a half-hour traverse of the slopes below Javorov vrh, which ends on the saddle between the mentioned peak and Cjanovca.
At the saddle, the path from Javorov vrh joins us, but we continue left towards Hudičev boršt (straight to Cjanovca and Srednji vrh). The path continues traversing the slopes to the west, then brings us out of the forest onto the scenic southern slopes of Cjanovca. This is followed by a traverse of occasionally steeper grassy slopes, which end at the edge of the Hudičev boršt forest. From here, the path ascends a bit more and after a few minutes of further walking brings us to the Zavetišče v Hudičevem borštu shelter.
From the shelter, continue westwards, where we soon reach the spring in Hudičev boršt, and immediately after it a marked junction, where we go straight ahead (left downhill Mačenska pot to Mače). This is followed by a short traverse of a grassy slope, then the path enters the forest and brings us to the next junction.
This time, continue right towards Cjanovca, Srednji vrh and Mali Grintovec (straight to the hut at Kališče and one of the paths down to Mače) on a path that begins to ascend more steeply through the forest. The quite steep path higher up brings us into a small valley where the forest thins out and the path levels off. After a few minutes of walking through the mentioned valley, the path turns right, ascends more steeply and after a short ascent brings us to the hut at Dolga njiva.
