Description of mountain:
Brusove, or also Belčne, klavže are the main and lower of the two klavže in the Belca gorge. As they are closest to Idrija and the most accessible, they are usually the ones recommended to visitors from Idrija who want to see any "Slovenian pyramids".
Originally wooden klavže from the 16th century were replaced by stone ones between 1767 and 1769. They were used to collect water for floating timber from gullies to the "grablje" at the confluence of Nikova and Idrijca in Idrija. They were abandoned in 1926 when a flood severely damaged the "grablje" and timber transport moved to a network of forest roads. In the early 1990s, the klavže were renovated; in 2001 they were declared a cultural monument of national importance, and since 2012 they have been inscribed on UNESCO's World Heritage List together with the rest of the mercury heritage in Spain's Almadén and Idrija.
Viewing the klavže is possible at your own risk but is generally not dangerous; some care is needed despite safeguards only when climbing the steep stairs along the right bank of Belca leading to the chamber by the eastern spillway, while the western spillway is inaccessible. The back side of the barrier can be safely reached by continuing about 100 meters upstream along Belca on the road, where a path branches left to the bank of Belca.
Today, Brusove klavže are easily reachable via a macadam forest road through the Belca gorge. The Slovenian mountain bike trail also follows this road. Under the shelter on the barrier, there is also a cabinet with a logbook.
