Cojzova koča na Kokrskem sedlu

Description of hut:
Kokrsko sedlo, also known in the past among locals and mountaineers as Velika vrata, is a prominent mountain pass in the central part of the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. The pass lies at an elevation of 1793 meters and represents a natural boundary as well as the most important high-mountain connection between the Kamniška Bistrica valley to the east and the Kokra river valley to the west.
This mighty pass is flanked on both sides by prominent peaks: to the north, the southern slopes of Grintovec (the highest peak of the entire mountain group) rise steeply above it, while to the south stands the sheer wall of the picturesque Kalška gora. Due to its location, it offers beautiful views of the surrounding rock faces.
In the central part of the pass stands the popular Cojzova koča, managed by PD Kamnik, which provides shelter and refreshments to numerous hikers. The hut is open during the extended summer season, while in winter and outside the season, visitors have access to a prepared winter room (bivouac) in case of emergency. The hut is supplied by a cargo cableway, whose lower station is located deep in the Kamniška Bistrica valley (the V Koncu area, near Žagana peč). In the past, a small wind turbine operated experimentally near the hut, but it was permanently removed some time ago due to the demanding high-mountain conditions and wear. Today, the hut relies on solar energy and generators.
