Description of mountain pasture:
On the Mežakla plateau, which belongs to the Julian Alps, there are quite a few typical alpine mountain pastures. Two of them, better known due to car access, are the Oblek and Ravne pastures. The first lies north, the second south of the forest road leading to Mežakla from Gorje. Both are still more or less active, with some livestock grazing there each year. Years ago a shepherd's hut stood on Ravne, but it burned to the ground after a lightning strike. Here, where before World War II stood the "kraljeva vas" - holiday residence, or Andrejevo selo with 18 individual buildings (all destroyed during the war), there was after the war a forestry settlement, and some holiday homes were built, e.g., the University of Ljubljana hut. Today on and around the Ravne pasture we encounter a forestry hut and a renovated forestry holiday home, the mentioned University Hut, two abandoned holiday homes, a World War II monument, the ruins of the burned shepherd's hut, and a few weekend cottages, though they are more common on the neighboring Oblek pasture. From the scenic, expansive, and peaceful Ravne pasture we also enjoy a nice view of part of the Julian Alps from Kukova špica toward Škrlatica, and onto the neighboring Pokljuka plateau.
