Planinski dom pri Gospodični

Description of hut:
The mountain lodge near Gospodična on the Gorjanci Hills (822 m) is located on the forested northwestern slope of the Gorjanci. Especially among older generations, the lodge is also well known by its former name – Vinko Paderšič Lodge. After World War II (in 1949), the hut was named after Vinko Paderšič, with the partisan name Breda, a professor, poet, and national hero who fell in nearby battles on the Gorjanci in 1942. The association later restored the original, traditional name that it still bears today.
Just over 30 meters below the mountain lodge is a picturesque, well-maintained, and easily accessible spring, after which the lodge and the entire surroundings got their name. The Gospodična Spring is considered the most legendary spring in Lower Carniola. The writer Janez Trdina brought it to the world with his Fairy Tales and Stories about the Gorjanci.
According to folk tradition and Trdina's story, the water from the spring has miraculous power. The legend tells of a castle lady from the nearby Mehovo Castle who was seriously ill and aged. When she drank water from this spring during her journey, she instantly recovered and rejuvenated into a beautiful young lady. The word about the healing effects of the water and its power to preserve eternal youth and beauty still attracts visitors today. In front of the spring, there is also a relief with the image of the young lady.
The first wooden hut was built at this location as early as 1931, but it was burned during the war. Today's lodge offers a pleasant shelter for hikers, and in front of it stands a mighty fir tree over a hundred years old, which together with the spring creates a wonderful natural backdrop for this popular Lower Carniola excursion spot.
