Description of mountain:
Trdinov vrh (1178 m) is the highest point in the Gorjanci range, across which the state border between Slovenia and Croatia runs. Although the summit itself is partly covered by forest, in good visibility it offers a magnificent view reaching all the way to the Julian Alps with the officially highest Triglav and to the Kamnik-Savinja Alps.
The peak, which Slovenes renamed in 1923 in honor of the writer Janez Trdina, is still called Sveta Gera by Croats today. This historical name originates from the 15th-century church of St. Jera, whose preserved ruins with a protective roof stand on the Slovenian side of the border. Just a few meters away, on the Croatian side, one can see the restored ruins of the chapel of St. Ilija, which also belong to the cultural heritage of this area. Both churches testify to the centuries-long intertwining of two different Christian traditions (Greek Catholic and Roman Catholic).
In addition to the rich sacral heritage, the summit offers a registration box with a stamp and a viewing panel that helps identify the surrounding peaks. The most prominent feature of Trdinov vrh, however, are the massive telecommunications transmitters (RTV and military tower), which due to their height of over 90 meters are clearly visible from far down in the valley.
