Description of mountain:
Polinik is a 2,332-meter-high mountain in the Austrian part of the Carnic Alps near the mountain pass to Italy, the Plöckenpass.
East of Polinik lies the slightly lower Elferspitz at 2,254 meters.
A short distance below the summit to the north stands a cross, beneath which is a logbook box.
Etymological sources indicate that the names of both peaks refer to the time when they cast shadows over the Gail Valley. Polinik derives from the Slovene word "opoldne" meaning "midday," while Elferspitz means "Eleven's Peak" in German.
Not far away in the High Tauern is another peak of the same name, at 2,784 meters the highest in the Kreuzeckgruppe. Both Poliniks are checkpoints on the point-to-point traverse Vrhovi prijateljstva / Gipfel der Freundschaft / Cime dell'Amicizia.
