Sabotin

Description of mountain:
Sabotin is a hill above Nova Gorica or, more precisely, above Solkan. Despite its modest height, it is an excellent viewpoint with views of the Julian Alps, the Soča River, the Goriška basin, Kras, the sea, the Friulian plain, and the more western Alps. It is also interesting from a historical perspective, as the fiercest battles of the First World War took place here (Sabotin is riddled with numerous military tunnels). Below it spans a railway bridge over the Soča River with the largest stone arch in the world, built under Austria-Hungary in 1906 as a key structure on the second railway connection between Trieste and Vienna.
