Description of mountain:
Sadnig or Hoher Sadnig is a relatively easily accessible and panoramic mountain in the eponymous Sadnig group (German: Sadniggruppe), the southern branch of the Goldberg group (German: Goldberggruppe) in Austrian Carinthia.
The panorama from the spacious summit, where a large cross stands, includes numerous three-thousanders (e.g., Sonnblick and Grossglockner).
Sadnig stands at the junction of three Mölltal valleys (Asten, Großfragant, and Kolmitzen) and is also the border point of three municipalities (Flattach, Mörtschach, and Stall).
Etymological sources indicate interpretations that the mountain's name derives from the Slovenian word "zadnji" (last).
The mountain is popular among touring skiers; its recent peak of fame came from the filming of Seven Years in Tibet (1997), starring Brad Pitt (he was helicoptered to the mountain or its approach ridge in winter months). Among Slovenes, the mountain is also known for the Peaks of Friendship traverse.
