Description of mountain:
Turjak Castle (Slovenian: Grad Turjak or Turjaški grad; German: Burg Ursperg, later Schloss Auersperg) lies on the edge of Turjak village and is named after the now-extinct aurochs (wild ox known as 'tur'). The present castle was built after the 1511 earthquake; previously, two castles stood here—a lower and an upper one—with the first dating to the 10th or 11th century (first mentioned in 1220). Well-preserved today, it merits a visit. Interiors are open Saturdays and Sundays (in 2012: €3 adults, €2 children; group discounts).
