Hinterkarscharte is a saddle at an altitude of 2274 meters located in the Lower Tauern mountain range. The saddle is located 8 km north-northwest from the center of Moos and 8 km north-northwest from the center of Krakauebene. The nearest mountain hut is Ebenhandlhütte, located 4km south. Closer is Hubenbaueralm, which is located 2km to the east-southeast. 0.6 km west-southwest of the saddle there is lake Hinterkarsee. The saddle is located above the valley Rantengraben.
