Schmalzkopf is 2724 meter high peak and is part of the Ötztal Alps. The peak is located 4 km south from the center of Pfunds and 5 km north-northeast from the center of Nauders. The nearest mountain hut is Labaunalm, located 1.9km south-southwest. Even closer is bivouac Labaun Hochleger, which is located 1.2km to the west-southwest. Northwest of the summit is the valley Oberinntal.
