Schwarzkogel is 1448 meter high peak with a registration box and a cross in the Prealps East of the Mur. The peak is located 3 km east from the center of Graschnitzgraben and 4 km north-northwest from the center of Sankt Jakob-Breitenau. The nearest mountain hut is Ottokar-Kernstock-Haus, located 5km west-southwest. A little further is Eiserne-Kling Hütte. Northeast of the summit is the valley Glawockengraben.
