I think information from hut is correct, because they asked hut keeper for transport to Planica valley in the morning. So they are not on the mountain.

Dan, I contacted the hut in Tamar. Your friends left the hut this morning, they were OK. They were not on Jalovec. I think they will contact you later! Marko K.

I recommend the avalanche triplet to everyone, also so that we find you (us) faster (at least), even if we can't rescue you (at least the transceiver, additionally Recco somewhere on the clothing). That way the rescuers' exposure is smaller too. And I'm not sarcastic, but realistic. To me this is also responsible behavior in the mountains, also towards rescuers. regards

I highly recommend that also mountaineers, not just ski tourers who plan to conquer lower and higher peaks this coming winter, get complete avalanche gear (transceiver, shovel, probe) and learn to use it. An avalanche doesn't bury only skiers!

In mountains everyone is responsible for themselves in my opinion. This definitely doesn't apply to children. Criminally responsible is everyone for negligence, intentional causing injury, damage. That's why there's always a mountain police unit policeman in the duty helicopter who judges if the accident has signs of criminal act. Otherwise it's different with our moral responsibility for our co-hikers, climbers, mountaineers when there's no professional guide in the group. In my opinion those of us who visit mountains longer create some constant circle of people with whom we do certain tours. Usually instinctively the most experienced or the one who knows the tour best takes some leadership. I always go to mountains with people I know well and trust them, but it must be mutual. I've accompanied (not led) already many various PD groups, children's camps, joint trips. In that case I always somehow end up at the end of the group and try to help those who struggle most (with right pace, talk, rest scheduling...). But if I go with friends, rescuers, alpinists then everyone knows who's the weakest and adapts to him and helps (sometimes it's me) and everyone in such group acts the same way. I admit though, it's easiest to go alone, of course if you're aware of your abilities (accident is unpredictable) and enjoy in your way, in peace and nature. I've been going to mountains since childhood (in those times of course without helmet and self-belay and in sneakers) and admit that it's quite hard to watch this madness, siege, competition, especially if a rescue call wakes me in the middle of night (and I gladly go voluntarily). lp

Why comment everything so nasty? Guy felt capable, read the desc and it said very demanding... still felt capable and went. Traversed and climbed the path. Congrats. No sign forbidden for beginners, if you look well marks are visible, learned a lot new . If injured GRS has purpose (just fall our side ). Congrats, glad many people our area this year.

I have the same opinion and think it's the only right thing to remove the pictures of that pair, because it seems like an invasion of personal privacy to me (in my opinion they could even sue you). I myself for the first time 15 years ago walked (climbed) from the lakes to the top of Mangart similarly equipped, it was just like that and many of us were like that and there was no money for gear either. All listed is "SELF-BELAYING" and there's no law saying that gear is mandatory. Let the farrier judge the shoes...

Yes, the next is at Veliki Rujno, then I went to Buljmo and Struge (shelter) - (also water at Madrasovac), then to Vaganski vrh and Sveto brdo and to Ivine vodice shelter (water) and then through Mala Paklenica (hard passable while there is water). Stap is really fairy-tale (Čučavac, chapel sv.Antuna, Stapina, Kamena galerija), I highly recommend it too. Don't know the condition of the cisterns in autumn time. Some paths to Lika are still mined and if you don't know them well they are not recommended.

I always left car in Senj. From Baške Oštarije to Karlobag afternoon bus runs (check timetable Gospić-Karlobag) and then catch the one to Senj. Sadly they closed Velebno hotel at B.Ošt. this year, there they had Velebitsko (beer), limited series private brewery (I know I shouldn't advertise booze but it's really good). Regarding South Velebit it's a bit different. There no stocked huts at all, only shelters, so this part somewhat harder because of that. But also extremely beautiful. Everything carry yourself, and water in autumn can be issue, because water from cisterns. Most beautiful part around Stap and Stapina (Kamena galerija). Here too I hiked from Baške Oštarije to Sveto brdo (via Vaganski vrh) and to Mala and Velika Paklenica (each time a bit different). You have unique pics, and anyway Velebit paradise for photography (even for me who not great). But in last 2 years only women's team and must say I enjoyed endlessly on Velebit. Croats have here some deepest caves (Lukina jama, Velebita...), which are my wish, someday. Ah, wasn't at Crnopac, which is kind of Velebit end. But unique to see Tulove grede (path to top demined, but not left nor right if you want to live a bit more. best

Between Alan and Baške Oštarije there's also Ravni Dabar - idyllic karst polje with mountain hut, whose keeper is Mile Prpić (tel. 053633016, 0981710933). And best to take two days for this part, so you can go to one of Dabarski kukovi or Kizo... Environment unique, true but from Ravni Dabar to Baške Oštarije in 2 hours. But path from Alan to Ravni Dabar more demanding on North and Central Velebit (quite rocky - and wardrobe for 4 days on back made it a bit harder). So consider it yourself. If need more info I have guidebook..best

Hi, I've hiked the Premužić trail 2x. Once it was the starting point of a 4-day traverse of North Velebit: Vratnik above Senj, the second time Oltari. The Premužić trail starts at Zavižan (meteorological station - hut - open all year) and ends at Baške Oštarije. In between you go through the strict nature reserve Hajdučki and Rožanski kukovi. The path has no big ascents and descents but has exceptional views and crazy scenery. In between there are (un)stocked huts - you have to call ahead for them to open (Alan, Ravni Dabar), food you mostly carry yourself and water for one day. Now - September is still a good time, because it's not hot, but the day is short (stage is also 10 hours). I always go to Velebit in May, it's uniquely beautiful, and now it would go too if the weather is OK. The best guide you get from the Croatian Mountaineering Association (Alan Čaplar - guide to Croatian mountains, Velebit mountaineering path), maps you order online from SMAND, it's a company that prints them and sends them to you. If you want to know more, just ask. Velebit is one of the most beautiful massifs for me... lp

Alessio, thanks again. Hope we meet somewhere, lately I've been only in your neck of the woods and must admit they've completely captivated me. Tomorrow going to White Waters. Best regards.

Thanks Alessio, we'll go this autumn now, and now you know how we know each other and that it's not just Markot and me interested in that path. It invites so nicely on the road - new sign, it has to interest a person. I went yesterday along the eastern ridge to Nabojs (quite bushy and thorny, and you need some sense to find it) and then on to biv.Mazzeni, great. lp
