Hi! Wondering if anyone knows if masks similar to this are sold in our stores: http://coldavenger.mybigcommerce.com/ , this one: http://www.exmask.com/psolarex.php or something like that: http://www.skigo.ca/airtrim.php From abroad the shipping costs are pretty big...

Hi!

I'm interested in how a new route is recognized (especially combined alpine ones)? Who recognizes it and confirms the grade, is it the alpine commission or does a certain number of alpinists have to climb it and confirm the grade? Can you climb a new route and name it only if you're a registered alpinist or can anyone do it?

Does anyone have info on conditions at Veliki vrh and path there? How much snow, possible with touring skis via Podvežak/Planina Ravne or all scree outside and path overgrown?

From Friday to Saturday we camped under the Turkish gully, then on Saturday an attempt towards the top of Turska gora. Unfortunately, we had to turn back in the gully (too much snow, fog, snowfall, wind ...). On Friday it rained up to the Okrešelj hut, higher it snowed, sinking up to the knees and beyond, snow wet. Overnight about 12 cm of snow fell. The next day conditions were similar in the gully too, only everything a bit more frozen overnight - fresh snow on top, then thin icy crust, below 30-50 cm of unprocessed snow. In the upper part of the gully larger amounts of snow, avalanche risk.
But it was an excellent experience, especially when after a whole day of rain/snowfall you finally pitch the tent and trample enough snow to prepare soup velik nasmeh

@jarsan I already checked there but they don't have anything good, thanks anyway nasmeh
@Karletto Yeah it seems so to me nasmeh I'll ask around stores if anyone is importer for any of these brands, but I think it will be bad...
@tol for winter climbing and general hiking in mountains... it happens that it's -10, -15 and this would be ideal, I also have some throat issues as stuff quickly gets to me and this would help even more
@primoza thanks! I've already looked at this a bit, but these are all "passive" things like scarves, neoprene masks, softshell protectors... I'm looking more for active "heat exchangers" like the examples in my link

At -78 even the best gear no longer helps nasmeh But last year I followed a Russian expedition that tried a winter ascent on K2, and you really see what winter in Karakoram means nasmeh And these were some of the world's best alpinists (among them the same climbers who in 2007 climbed the hardest route on K2 - straight up the west face) but they didn't make it in two months. I think some small team in alpine style will succeed (like on Gasherbrum II two years ago). Oh, and if anyone's interested, link to that K2 expedition last winter: http://www.russianclimb.com/k2winter/k2_winter2012_en.html Sorry already for a bit off-topic velik nasmeh

Here then one more hill-related weather: http://www.mountain-forecast.com/peaks/K2/forecasts/8612 Would anyone go up on Sunday? Just snowing, wind around 90 km/h and -78 °C with wind chill effect nasmeh

Just before the last rock before the ridge (past which I went left) you can go right too, or turn right already 50m lower. Again depends on conditions and pref, but easy to find exit cuz you see ridge above you practically all directions smile

Easiest route to Begunjščica is via central gully (50.14 on first pic). Of course none is easy, so gotta watch out here too (esp openness down where you can roll very far). Technically nothing special, just beginner gully. Once you master it recommend Y gully (50.13 on first pic), seemed a tad steeper to me. Exit from Y gully left or right, depends on conditions and pref, I like right better smile And pic with my route up central gully last winter.

For me some of the best recordings of ascents (from a technical viewpoint) are from "tvmountain", you can find them on Youtube too. This ascent on Grandes Jorasses is excellent: http://youtu.be/yEErypyB-x0 or this one http://youtu.be/dLs3gYBl2Vg and others. Among the suggested videos on the right you'll find more. Highly recommended!!!

Aha thanks for the info. I've been doing easier winter ascents in our and neighboring mountains for about a year, also climbing gullies, and noticed quite some nice routes (that by category are alpinistic routes) about which I haven't heard anyone climbed them (not mentioned in guidebooks, hribi.net, plezanje.net...) and was thinking if not soon maybe sometime in future do one of these ascents and would be nice to record it. Planning soon to join AO of some PD and do course and all there, but anyway out of curiosity wondered if could name and grade route even if not registered alpinist. Probably otherwise not smart, cause can't give credible grade without that much experience and knowledge, but anyway nasmeh

Yesterday to the Kalški ridge from Kriška valley via Koren. Weather excellent, sunny, occasionally windy, temperature ideal. The path is not demanding, long but very interesting. Up to the top of Koren snow is just in patches, from there about 10m snow patches start that are mostly hard, only every 20 steps it collapses to the bottom (usually to the knee or deeper), so you have to zigzag continuously through dwarf pines to find a nice path. Recommend nasmeh

Sorry, I went to write without even glancing at plezanje.net, I see that for these Ježa there are quite a few: http://www.plezanje.net/climbing/db/showCrag.asp?crag=731&p_ctx=long But they are more rock routes, no known gulleys mentioned? What about Zvoh? Haven't tracked anything on that, but I saw a few nice ones there too. If anyone has any kind of experiences climbing Ježa or Zvoh please share everything nasmeh

So I won't open a new thread, since the question concerns alpinism. Today I did an excellent tour from Kriška planina via Koren to the top of Kalški greben and when I looked towards Krvavec, I noticed a few very nice (at least from afar) gulleys leading to the top of Zvoh or to Ježov greben, some looked really school-book beautiful, angles roughly from 30 to 60. I've never heard anyone climbing up there, so I'm wondering if these are some known gulleys I haven't heard of yet or not? Has anyone climbed them? Experiences? nasmeh

Depends on when you went, because my friend and I today centrally processed it, and before us there were surely already a couple of people because there were quite a few tracks, and behind us two also climbed up. Almost no wind on the way up, only on the top it really blew through. To Zelenica really at times unpleasant - deep sinking with every step. Tons of people nasmeh Rest let the pics tell ...

Hey kids, just so you can argue...forum is meant for other things. Go to the hills instead!
