Self-protection is scarce, because there are few cables. What's secured are mostly pitons. Over Goličica there's quite some free climbing, not hard, but very exposed.

Oh, we met on Saturday on the Rinke ring. You went via Turski žleb to Logarska, I via Sleme and Gamsji skret to the other side. It was really a wonderful day for hiking. Best regards nasmeh

A few years ago I wandered around this area, where they don't even know the Rhodope mountains, only separate mountain groups nasmeh The Rila mountains were the nicest for me too, including the monastery. And of course ancient Melnik right on the Greek border, where above the town there are picturesque, bizarre sandstone formations (like in Nepalese Mustang, although that's certainly a chapter of its own), where there are quite a few paths, say you take the footpath from Melnik to Rozhen Monastery. But I have to mention that in the Rila hills I met Spaniards who had been in our Julian Alps the year before and didn't quite understand what a Slovene is doing there when our mountains are so much prettier.... nasmeh

I too wander a lot alone in the mountains, also on more demanding paths and off-trail. Partly out of necessity, partly because company over time stops with constant going to the mountains. Otherwise I'm a social being, but groups somehow aren't my thing, especially large ones. But I notice that from my wanderings the more demanding paths across the border are disappearing. And I'm interested if anyone else would tackle some tours first in company rather than alone.

Yesterday went across Skalaška. In the scree the path is quite overgrown. All cables hold in the upper part, the rest is collapsed. The bottom two pegs very loose, the third still usable for now, also the holds at that spot are quite loose. Pity, as it's deteriorating like this, right in this key section soon everything will be on the cable, which you can never trust 100%, because you don't know its condition up top. Otherwise a wonderful, wild path!
