I posted a new thread about the bivouac under Skuta so that as many forum visitors as possible can find the mentioned video recording. Since more similar projects are expected in our mountains in the near future, I was actually pondering how to publish this at all. Currently, a new film about the bivouac on Kanin ledges is also in the works, but only halfway realized, as the last attempt to place the bivouac in December 2015 unfortunately failed. These projects are mostly about sponsorship and donor approaches as well as huge volunteering, which also applies to us - a few enthusiasts preparing these short films.

From my point of view, it involves exceptional efforts, as you need to take along, besides mountaineering gear and food, clothes for two days, also a lot of filming gear that extremely hinders movement on the terrain. Sometimes you literally puked from the effort. There weren't few cases when backpacks tore from the weight. At the same time, for such a product it means multiple visits to the location to get as many diverse shots as possible. In the end, every moment of such an experience is worth more than gold. Mountaineers certainly understand this, right? Anyway, watch and enjoy. Enthusiasm drives us all forward and much new and beautiful awaits us. Good luck

Bivouac under Skuta

Hello!

A few days ago I visited the Javornik pasture on Pokljuka. The location is gorgeous (as are many others of course), a real gem in all seasons. What saddened me is that quite a few of these shepherd's huts are actually abandoned and half-ruined. You can see that from the photos I took. I'm wondering if it would be possible to rent (lease) one of them for 99 years or something similar. That way these objects could be renovated and I would really enjoy it. Grateful for any information.

Darinka, how do you mean - hut closed? Probably the hut is closed, winter room is open though, right? Did you sleep in the winter room?

It was about 20 years ago - already then there were tracks from snowmobiles in those areas. They actually saved me from a night winter bivouac in those parts. Namely, I was descending on skis down the southern slope of Raduha - it was late afternoon. The plan was, after a certain ski section, to turn (on foot of course) back to the Carinthian side and I was looking for a direction leading to the road under Smrekovec towards Bistrica. Dusk was falling and I was in total panic, as I had no idea where I was. The mobile had very poor reception and I couldn't get proper instructions. It got extremely cold, I was soaked, without food and drink, exhausted to the point of collapse. The last hope was the tracks and I followed them as there was no living soul anywhere. Luckily they led me exactly in the desired direction towards Črna. It was almost complete darkness when I descended the road towards Bistrica and sparks were flying properly from under the skis. Yes - back then the tracks literally saved my life.

Zlatica, in my layman's opinion it's a ptarmigan.

Winter hasn't settled definitively yet, since we're still in November. The snow will still melt nicely. Just have to wait for warmer days...

No one is encouraging anyone to go right now, please don't write nonsense and twist words. Need to check weather and conditions. I emphasized that twice in my post.

Last time I was up there on Oct 19, it was exceptionally hot - hotter than summer and no sign of any snow. If it's icy now, just wait a few days and check again.
