Ah tons of these various variants each has its good and bad properties and higher or lower price. In the XVII century it was mainly about survival for them and back then they helped each other as best they could, and that's known up to what heights (where there was something useful for them), now they would hardly make it to every little bump in winter.....so it doesn't sound too smart-ass, already 40 years ago I made it on foot in winter to most two-thousanders without crampons, some 35 years with touring skis.. enough said, winter is here and snow enough for all needs and ways of use.....
