Hello,
does anyone know what the conditions are like on the path from Zadnjica via Komar to the Dolič Hut? Are crampons and ice axe still needed?

I always thought that the Silva Korena path is only that last part (from the sign onwards) the other is just the path from Drežnica.

Today did Silva Korena path starting from Planina Kuhinja, except one small snow patch on section connecting west path and Silva Korena (easy bypass) path fully snow-free.

Hello,

does anyone know if the Silva Korena path is snow-free?

Tempting, but it'll be quite difficult to get, Decathlon webshop doesn't have it anymore, on the Simond site there are no more products in the self-belaying kits category...

The trouble with online purchase is that you don't dare to try on the item, return shipping is 14€ or 20€ depending on weight which isn't exactly cheap.

In principle, what you get in specialized stores (iglusport, kibuba, promontana,...) should all be quality, prices range between 100 and 300 euros (can be more of course) which one to take depends a lot on what you'll do with it, whether climb Krn in good weather, or Matterhorn in snowstorm, or something in between nasmeh

Hello,
if you already have a quality windbreaker you can also think about some fleece or down jacket (that compress well and take little space), which you wear under the windbreaker when it's cold.
Softshell jacket itself doesn't warm that much.

@Špik81
Given that you're talking about a shoe that costs 250€ (full price) I wouldn't take it so lightly that the protective rubber peels off even if it's "just" protective rubber. If the shoe is still under warranty I'd take it back to the store and let them fix it.

easy unmarked path?

Hello,
as the previous one wrote, it depends a lot on how much you plan to hike in summer and winter.
With winter or all-year ones it can get tiring in summer especially on 10hr+ tours over rocks and scree.
So if you plan to hike a lot both winter and summer I recommend doubles. For occasional winter strolling lighter "summer" ones are fine but watch out because on some mid-high models the gaiter can ride up at the heel so snow gets in.
Or consider low hiking shoes or trainers you carry and change into when the path isn't demanding anymore.

Best.

No experience, but think rain cover bought separately.
Personally more worried about back panel than waterproofing, cheap packs usually unpadded, few kg and it sags, carry on shoulders.
Suggest go to store, load with climbing rope, test on your back - backpack buying like shoes, back length must fit, sit well for comfort and hip weight transfer, else regret.

That's REALLY good to know.
Many thanks for the explanation.
