Since I took a newly minted kayaker with me on the path around Krka, he wanted to repay me somehow and surprised me yesterday with a cycling offer. The route was supposed to be a surprise, but since I don't like surprises he finally revealed the secret from where to where. Organization and transport were in his domain. So we set off towards Italy this morning and left the car in Trbiž and headed on the old railway which is now a bike trail towards Udine. The trail is excellently maintained and goes through tunnels and over railway bridges across rivers. Around Trbiž lots of cyclists, then southwards fewer and fewer. In Kluže (Chiusaforte) we turned from the bike trail onto the regional road and slowly tackled the 18-kilometer climb to the pass which was the goal. The road is nicely laid out, only annoying are the motorcyclists whizzing by. (car drivers were calmer) From the pass then only downhill, past Rabeljsko Lake to Trbiž. The road to Predel pass is also nicely visible.

The desire to see the "most beautiful city in the world" from a different angle has been around for a while, but somehow it never worked out.
Well on Sunday my buddy wanted to try paddling. Too crowded on the Slovenian coast and Bohinj Lake. We chose Ljubljanica. Water is calm and for first time in boat it's a good choice.
Due to logistics I decide not to paddle the whole, but half in both directions.
We got on the water in Podpeči, nice access to water and paddled calmly to the weir at former Rog,(which isn't there) just a spillway.
At Špica for a radler and back upstream.
We met turtles, swans and nutrias, but nobody paid much attention to us.
Nice experience, buddy says it wasn't the last time.
Ljubljana is also interesting from water and has special charm. Day was very hot. Water has different smell in center of Ljubljana.
It added up to a bit more than 30km .

mirank, if you don't see the connection between overload and toll payment, every effort and explanation is pointless.....

The road over Vršič is overburdened in summer and there would be nothing wrong if a toll was charged for use (for cars and motorcycles), but not usurious, say 5€. Why should all tourists drive up for free? In Austria, high mountain roads are toll roads and not cheap. But the question is whether the funds would be used specifically for maintenance.....??
