Top!
This smells like a super ascent.
Tone, then we can expect another one of your excellent reports! nasmeh
Good luck!

Turbo, the whole way I wondered and couldn't stop marvelling at what it was that put you off this path. Maybe I was really lucky not to meet any snakes on the way, maybe the weather was also to blame, as it was still quite pleasantly cold and wet in the morning; well, other gentler things were stinging my legs, since I wore shorts, but those gentle flowers didn't bother me that much either. I was really thrilled at how beautiful this path over Viene is. I took it downhill of course. Views from the top are phenomenal! That green larch forest in the valley is just fairy-tale-like.
I should also add that that sign is still standing there. Don't know why. Apart from some dead larches in the valley I didn't notice any other objective dangers myself; anyway, with common sense and at your own responsibility!

This weekend I visited the Montasio range. Since I wanted to make the most of the day and also took the Leva path, I decided to visit this beautiful peak. Julya, many thanks for sharing your story with us. I know how it is when you imagine or wish for something and then it doesn't work out. I experienced such a story on Corsica and it still keeps me awake at night. On Saturday, I almost found myself in a similar situation. My wish was to start from Pecol to Strma Peč, return, climb Montaž and continue to Špik nad Nosom. It happened that my legs failed me while descending from Strma Peč and due to pain I almost decided to stop and end the day. If I hadn't had such a strong desire to visit Montaž, I could have just sat in the car and driven home. So I rested for half an hour under a spruce shade in front of the Malga Montasio hut, rested a bit and decided to continue and see how it goes. Of course it quickly became clear that there were no problems going uphill. Maybe the scorching sun also did its part. So I succeeded and besides Strma Peč I climbed Montaž for the first time and gladly realized that my legs were serving me again. I quickly decided to descend via Pipanova lestev and continue and turned onto Leva. Here once again thanks to Julya for the picture above, really obvious rocks and cairns that were placed so the traveler can recognize the junction with certainty. I decided after surveying the terrain to take my own route, which I later realized higher up didn't deviate much from your description. I kept to the right side of that gully for about half the ascent, then crossed it to the left like you and went straight up to the pre-summit. There I noticed two or three smaller cairns slightly to the right, but I climbed directly to the pre-summit. At the top I looked for the bottle and box you wrote about and sadly realized they were no longer there, or I couldn't find them, but I found a yellow plastic lid that probably once belonged to a container of which there is no trace. Still I was rewarded at the top with a wonderful view, silence and a solitary mountain eagle that glided weightlessly along the mountain slope. Priceless! I should add that I was very satisfied with the ascent itself, as it was like a kind of bandage after climbing a week ago when I struggled with Šite and Lopa in the kingdom of Jalovec.
Here above Pecol the rock is really excellent and gives a good feeling of safety and reliable grip. So I had the feeling that whichever route I chose it wouldn't present major difficulties, you just have to go straight up and left of those first highest rocks that we see from the secured path. I can also add some pictures here with the route I chose, but I feel that for those looking for a new adventure, as Palček Plezalček nicely wrote, it isn't even necessary. In any case a peak worth visiting. I concluded the story by descending back to Leva and continuing to the saddle where I also climbed Špik Hude Police and descended happy and fulfilled back to the valley. As an interesting fact, except for two very friendly Slovenes at the top of Montaž, I was completely alone on the other three peaks, which was also an achievement, especially considering it was a weekend nasmeh

Tone, you know... as long as I'm alive, I will be eternally grateful to you and you can tug me by the sleeve anytime to go up together and I'll take the rope with me. This Thursday unfortunately I can't, as I'll already be climbing towards West Lyskamm at 4479m. Another time with pleasure!
If you go this week, then I wish you a lucky tour and a safe step!

Horror really. This reminds me of the statement by the Bled tourism management from 2017, when they said that we Slovenians are not welcome at Bled. But this is right, that foreigners use our bivouacs as free accommodation.
vitan16. 06. 2026 08:49:17
Granny, no thanks. We know what public transport is like in our poor country, plus I have neither the time nor the money to afford that as well.
Maybe for others this represents a solution, but I don't visit huts unless it's really necessary.

Hello!

It saddens me that from one comment that was obviously misunderstood such a debate develops and due to some being offended and others lecturing I feel obliged to explain what I meant. If I offended anyone, I apologize, but that was not my intention. First about tourists: I am also a tourist and whenever I go on vacation, especially to foreign countries, I behave respectfully there and try to respect their culture, rules and customs. However, I notice that today there are too many arrogant people who do whatever they feel like. Maybe I did use a harsh word in the previous post, but how can one not be angry at people who behave as if everything is theirs? Due to their inappropriate behavior (here I mainly mean not respecting the parking regime) we all suffer. I have also found myself in a situation where I was left without a parking space, but that does not mean I will leave the car in the middle of the road just to stretch my legs and satisfy my curiosity on the pass. In my opinion a serious hiker arrives early (unless of course planning an afternoon tour after work etc.) and leaves the car in a suitable place because he knows he will not return in half an hour and drive on and expects everything to be in perfect order upon return. A good example for me is Logarska dolina where they decided that for those who arrive early enough to park (usually mountain visitors) entry is free; for all others who arrive later parking is paid. So the wolf is fed and the goat is whole. Finally regarding my early arrival: I cannot believe that bothered some. I arrived so early for two reasons: the first was that I had a long tour planned that day; I had to return to the car by 14h. The tour was: Mojstrovke ridge, R. v. Dnine all the way to the end of Šit, descent into the valley, ascent to Lopa and back down and to Vršič. Whoever knows this route knows it is not easy! In addition, despite the sunny forecast dark clouds regularly gathered in the sky and for a moment just below the summit of Lopa a few drops surprised me which fortunately did not stay. Therefore do not judge if you do not know the details; at the same time I ask you this: what is more appropriate in summer, to start early or start late in the afternoon when some storm may appear? Too many times I have witnessed inexperienced people who, when I was already returning to the car, were setting off into the mountains while a storm was already brewing in the sky. As the second reason for early arrival, I knew if I did not come early to Vršič I simply would not get a parking space and how right I was!

Lp and safe step to all further!

DVas, that's how it is. Nowhere, except next to the huts.

Hello mountain lovers!
I'm sharing fresh news regarding parking on Vršič.
As I secretly expected, things have changed again, as is customary in our country, and they turn like the wind. How glad I am that on Saturday I managed to catch a parking spot at the top for the last time this year! But I was surprised when I drove up and found out that the piece of parking lot I wrote about in the previous report is also closed. After a short panic about what now, I remembered a small piece of land by that souvenir hut, right after it along the road a few steps lower, where I parked some time ago. Thank God I was early again (the time was 2:20velik nasmeh). Others weren't so lucky and by the time I returned, there was only one other car besides mine, like in the old days. The entire upper part of the pass is parked right on the lane, a little here a little there, even by the construction site, so I'm not surprised that it came to this. People are to blame themselves if they think they can get through with the logic that if someone else can park, so can I. But here I'm not talking about serious hikers, but the tourist mob who think they can do whatever. Well, not to stray too much from the topic, this is what was said on the radio today: today a new traffic regime starts operating on the Vršič pass, introducing a barrier system and a complete ban on parking at the top of the pass! Transit across the pass and buses will remain free. The barrier system will be intended for control, counting traffic and informing drivers, since 92 parking spaces at the top have not yet been built, they said.

However, there is still the possibility to go with someone experienced who has already been there or ask on the forum if someone who knows this mountain would join you.
Lp

I really don't understand some comments.
I clearly wrote that currently the left barrier is raised for ALL! Those traveling over the pass (i.e. transit), as well as those going up to park and please don't try to sell me here that the only "official" parking lots are only at the huts (e.g. Erjavčeva etc.), since we all, who visit Vršič multiple times, know that there are also parking lots right after the top of the pass, looking towards Trenta, there opposite that little house with souvenirs. For me personally bus is not an option, since I start from the parking lot at very early hours, if I want the tour to be carried out as it should, but it's true that for a normal hiker bus is quite a good solution.
Pa lp.

Hello,
I'm passing on relatively good news that I heard this morning on the radio, regarding parking on Vršič this season and clarifying some uncertainties that have been bothering us so far.
The matter is as follows: there will be no new parking lots this year, as was said before, but the existing parking lots can be used free of charge, on a first-come, first-served basis... So this year the right barrier (the one for parking) on Vršič will be down, the other one for transit (left) will be up all the time (open). So more simply put: one barrier will be up all the time and the passage over Vršič will be open. Parking will still be free, at the existing parking lots, once the parking lots are full, it will simply no longer be possible to park. During the peak season, police and wardens will also be up there to maintain order. That's it. I hope I was of some help. Safe steps to all going forward and lp!

Hello, I'd just like to add that a "free bus" doesn't mean it's free for me if I also have to pay for parking where I'll leave my car. This is nothing but a regular scam by the municipalities to further fill their coffers. I think the time has come when hikers should take matters into their own hands and show the state and municipalities what public good means to us by organizing, getting in front of their barriers and parking meters and disabling them, thereby letting them know that without us hikers, there is no hiking either. That's it!
vitan7. 05. 2026 20:32:46
Before you leave the parking lot, you have to enter your license plate into the machine that's there (I think there are 2) and pay the parking fee, just like Lina wrote, the camera at the barrier then reads your plate and opens the ramp for you. Without the card, you can just wipe it under your nose.
They were right when they said that paying with cash should be written into the constitution...jezik
