We could easily put this tour in the "Bavški Grintavec" section, or "Ridge traverse from Grintavec all the way to Svinjak".
Well, we chose the peaks in the title as a standalone goal.
We started in Bavšica and headed into the Tesne gorge, where snowfields surprised us at such low altitude.
I would discourage the path here in wet conditions, as dense vegetation pushes onto the narrow path, which is still quite followable.
At Planina Bukovec we stock up on water and climb the next 200 meters to the junction. Here the path branches left to Sedlo Kanja, we turned right. The dense undergrowth I mentioned before is no longer here.
Soon we cross a scree and here we must watch carefully so the nice and comfortable path doesn't mislead us. Right at the end of the scree we need to turn straight up. The path becomes steep and the steepness doesn't ease until the saddle, which ends right at Vrh Ruš.
From Vrh Ruš a nice ridge path leads to Vrh Brda. Markings are quite frequent, but a bit faded.
From Vrh Brda we already see our goal - Mali Grintavec. The path there also follows the ridge or slightly below it, of course on the Trentino side.
We arrive at what one could call the fore-summit of Mali Grintavec. To the actual summit the ridge becomes more toothed and requires some caution. Of course you need to grab rock in places.
I won't waste words on the views. White clouds in the sky further spiced up the already beautiful idyll. Neighboring Bavški Grintavec looks quite close, but as we saw from the markings, you first have to descend quite deep to the south side.
So we enjoyed the top of Mali Grintavec for quite some time, on the way back along the same path we searched for flowers.
The tour is quite strenuous, but as I have written many times - worth every step.
