@sodnick I think both go hand in hand. If you move in the mountains in winter, you also need to master the avalanche trio, condition assessment, weather... All that gives you the course on Pokljuka, for movement technique find a PD or AO that has such a course. One without the other doesn't work.

Today nice weather, but summit honestly windy. Some dared and put on skis, but path has quite some stones and branches.... Below summit all snow blown off.

For me, important is ease of use and good signal - I've decided for Ortovox 3+. It has 3 antennas, transmits the horizontal one which gives the easiest signal for searchers if buried. Whichever you get, it's important to really learn to use it.

The autumn campaign ran from October to November 15, so that bait can still be quite fresh. But really no need to panic now - in populated areas we pick it up with glove or bag and throw in trash, otherwise just move it off the path...

@MajaO: I'm kinda ashamed for such a vet who doesn't know it's not a joke. Me (also a vet ) often ask what to do if owners or dogs come in contact with the bait. I always say to do what you did, and also observe the dog 3x as if it was in contact with rabid animal... Well, just glad it all turned out well!

Today with my Rina to Ratitovec. She wasn't the only four-legged one, behaved well, others too.
Only thing that bothered me (yes, me ) - we were already going down, pup on leash behind me and by my right leg so as not to bother the uphill walkers, when dad from afar says to son - oh, careful, this one is big and mean, leave it alone. OK, right to leave it alone, but that was wrong from many viewpoints - teaching a harmful attitude towards dogs, educationally questionable... bah.
But didn't spoil the day for me - sun over sea of fog - priceless!
