I on my ranch in Posavje (Sromlje) haven't had luck with nose-horned vipers this year yet, maybe next week when I go down there again, snakes will be more "lively", then I'll drop by, with pic of course.

I'm glad that on Mr. Ziki's recommendation I rediscovered this forum. On my web album I also have some photos of reptiles with which I had quite a few concrete encounters in my life; I recommend viewing the album, and I promise that from now on I'll show up more often, because I have no fear of our snakes, but definitely respect, caution and an attitude towards the right of coexistence.

Velkavrh, regarding the bellflower, maybe it's Scheuchzer's!

Velkavrh, I'm also quite active in photographing mountain flowers, but hats off to you.

Quite a few inspiring entries and opinions. I too prefer to be a "loner", though in my life I have walked huge amounts of paths in organized hiking company, it was nice, but true beauty reveals itself to me only now, in the autumn of life. And the goal for me is the path, the peak just a point where I should turn.nasmeh

Scott Kelby is really great. In a very clear way he shows the essentials, what you need from it, but you decide yourself anyway. And now buying the package of all three books is much cheaper than individual books. He also knows what marketing is ..... maybe the best of all.
P.S. The two books Fotografirajmo digitalno by author Nikolaj Pečenka were also a great help to me in understanding digital photography.

Maja, for starters buy a really good book by Oskar Dolenc - Composition of the picture. Otherwise... practice makes master. You can get the book via internet on e-fotografija, about 15 euros.

My photo gear for mountains and also otherwise for everything else is:
- Canon 450D
- kit lens 15~85
- telephoto Canon 70~300 USM IS
- strap for carrying telephoto and other accessories.

Of course I really want Canon 15~85 IS USM, but this glass is so expensive that I'm still hesitating ..... rolling
If anyone is interested what this gear and my small self can do in every opportunity, you can see here

Interesting and instructive debate from the first post onwards. The more I read, the more I learned and the more I know, the more I realize how little I actually know.zmeden So as not to just philosophize, the problem of what kind of self-belaying on "normal" trails in the high mountains or where there are already tensioned "cables" with pegs bothers me too. I'm getting on in years, close to three-quarters of a hundred, I don't lack mountaineering experience, I've been mountaineering since childhood, but lately I prefer to go alone, I like to photograph, and as someone already mentioned, also where it can be dangerous, e.g., when you're on the "cable". I got a helmet, now I'm deciding on a safety harness, but the fact that I already wear a "photographic" (some kind of climbing) harness around my waist, with lens and attachments, makes the decision difficult for me.
Since I only lack Razor and stamps around Triglav to complete the transverzale, where I have wandered many years ago, but mostly from the Pokljuka side, I ask for any opinion and advice. Others' experiences are worth their weight in gold, even from younger ones. But I know the decision is ultimately mine anyway.zadrega
Otherwise, I'll keep visiting hills and mountains as long as my head and legs serve, of course various "via ferratas" are off.

rogi, what about the other way, to Zelenica in the morning by cable car, I think it runs on Saturdays and Sundays, (for me saving time and energy), then towards the top .....
I'm interested in your opinion, what would be better for me. I know the paths, but making plans for autumn.
