Surely no traveler to Kranjska Gora remains unimpressed by the rocky peaks slicing the sky blue in picturesque Gozd Martuljek, so were we last Sunday when deciding to climb Špik. So-called "Martuljek group" part of Julian Alps, most beautiful of listed peaks definitely Špik. Summit 2472 m dropping vertically into green valley almost unconquerable. Only partly true for this side, but has "weak" sides too, two trails to it as only peak in group. PK Ivanec members chose path through Kačji graben, very steep strenuous trail. Almost 1400 m elevation continuous uphill no flat parts. Almost no technical aids (rope pegs), no real fall danger into depth, ascent hardest by tiring scree upper part draining last strength atoms. Real climbing little in summit part, also stonefall danger making helmet mandatory equipment! Rewarded for effort with truly impressive panorama: Mangrt, Jalovec, Ponce, Mojstrovka, Prisank, Razor, Škrlatica... view to Italy and far across Karawanks to Austria... Descent although time shorter almost harder than ascent, especially lower part where wet rocks roots make even best boots ridiculous. For rest lunch among many huts chose Mihov's on road to Vršič, no mistake. Excellent cuisine backdrop drawing sighs, what more could one wish to happily full of impressions head home satisfied.

In the mountaineering history of Ivanec and our whole region, Friday, 12 August 2011, will remain forever recorded as the day when eight members of the "Mountaineering Club Ivanec" stepped onto the highest peak of the Alps, Mont Blanc 4810m! The adventure started on 10 August in the first minutes, after months of preparations, the team headed through Slovenia and Italy to Chamonix in France. First by cable car, then by cogwheel railway, and loaded with gear for another 2 hours to the mountain hut Tête Rousse, where we overnighted at an altitude of 3167m. At dawn we set off over iced rock and falling rockfall to the Goûter hut at 3817 m as base camp, where at 02.00 hours under wind gusts we headed towards the summit. Despite all difficulties, increasingly strong up to storm wind, extremely low temperature below -20°C, fog, thin air, hidden crevices in the snow, over narrow iced ridges, the whole team proudly reaches the summit at 08.10! Weather conditions barely allowed a 10-minute stay on the summit itself, enough for unforgettable views, for an indescribable feeling of satisfaction, for a boyhood dream, for history! The descent with necessary continuous caution proceeded very quickly along the same path, so that we already at 18.00 hours happily began the celebration in the camp in the valley. Saturday passed in sightseeing Chamonix, the cradle of alpinism and mountaineering in general, so that we arrived happy in Ivanec in the evening hours.
Through this I greet the team from Slovenia whom we met at Aiguille du Goûter, the guys were returning from the Mont Blanc summit, the weather did not serve us as it did them, but persistence paid off. Of course greetings to Maja and Damjana, and see you soon in the Alps.

@čru
Considering we've been mountaineering in your beautiful Alps for many years, where we've made a lot of friends among Slovenian mountaineers whom we particularly appreciate and with whom we gladly exchange experiences, we've all got all the necessary gear, including helmets, however precisely because of some "false" security we've gained from mountaineering sometimes the helmets stay in the backpack. That's simply not okay, and I absolutely agree with you that on such climbs all protective gear is needed. Thanks for the note, and likewise wish you and your team safe and sound in the mountains.

The desire for adrenaline took four mountaineers from PK Ivanec back to the Alps about ten days ago. Agreement in the evening hours, and in the morning off towards Slovenia, already a usual destination, towards the Kamnik-Savinja Alps. This time we chose two peaks, Koroška Rinka or Križ, height 2433m, and Turska gora height 2251m. We set off from Logarska dolina, via Okrešlja, towards Savinjsko sedlo, then turned towards Rinka and climbed via the col to the summit of Koroška Rinke or Križ. Further the path led us over Turska gora to Kamniško sedlo 1884m, from where the descent followed via Frischaufov dom 1396m back to Logarska dolina, and the way back to Zagorje. This weekend rainy weather spoiled our plans, but next weekend we hope for the Alps again.

Ivanščica - path via Mrzljak

Mrzljak is one of several paths leading to the Ivanščica summit from Ivanec via Prigorec. On the path there are two arranged drinking water springs, Žgano vino and Mrzljak, and the whole path is well marked. At a leisurely pace, with rests at the drinking water springs, the path to the summit takes about two hours.

Ivanščica - path via Pionir

The Pionir path is the most demanding but also the most attractive ascent due to the trail configuration, beautiful views and nature itself. In its middle part, the ascent goes along the Ivanščica ridge, and views of Prigorec and Ivanec are offered along its entire length. Unfortunately, the path is extremely poorly marked. However, due to its attractiveness, a large number of hikers choose it, so the trails are well trodden. Since no other path crosses it, it is impossible to go wrong from it. The path to the top, with rests, takes about 90 min.

Ivanščica - path via Konj

Path to the top via Konj is one of the more demanding ones. Consists of three parts: ascent to Mali Konj, ascent to Veliki Konj, and ascent to the top. No special rest areas or water sources. So supply with liquids before ascent. Trail well marked entire way. Leisurely pace with rests and views, ascent takes about 90 minutes.

For all interested Slovenian hikers for ascent to Ivanščica mountain, description of routes via several border crossings from Slovenia to Croatia follows.

1.Bregana entrance: after entering Croatia, follow motorway direction Zagreb to first junction Jankomir, continue motorway direction Krapina-Maribor to exit Sv. Križ Začretje towards Ivanec (big Roses shopping center on right). Road leads via Lepoglava to Ivanec. After motorway exit in Začretje, ca. 30 min to Ivanec. At roundabout before Ivanec turn right to center, main road. Road passes church, follows lively Bistricu stream, Rudolf Rajtera street to sawmill where houses end, after 100m entrance to Prigorec starting point of all northern trails to Ivanščica.

2.Macelj entrance: right after entering Croatia direction Trakošćan, main road via Bednja, Lepoglava to Ivanec. Route continuation as previous (Bregana).

3.Cvetlin entrance: after entering Croatia, first junction (inn) right to Trakošćan. After ca. 3km to Trakošćan (visible castle), left on main road via Bednja, Lepoglava to Ivanec. Continuation as previous (Bregana).

On Friday over morning coffee at the info point of Mountaineering Club Ivanec the suggestion came up that we could go on an ascent to Peca on Sunday, 13.2.2011. It was accepted within one minute, regardless of weather conditions, which btw were supposed to be good. Too bad we didn't know you had the traditional winter Matjaž march the day before, otherwise we would have joined you, but next year we will. We started the trip on Sunday morning at 5. Up to the hut on Peca stable weather accompanied us (cloudy but no wind or precipitation). We hoped it would hold till the end of the ascent. Upon arriving at the hut, we decided to do the ascent via the "very demanding path," eek counting on such stable weather to remain. However, the Alps showed their fickle nature again, and halfway up the bad weather started catching up with us. At the top icy wind and snow blizzard greeted us, so we stayed very briefly - I only shot a couple of pics, as the snow was freezing my lens. jezen Regardless of the weather, it was a nicely spent day in your Alps. nasmeh
