Description: The Simontornya Castle is a Renaissance monument. Simon, son of Salamon, vice-count during the reign of Kun László, had a tower built in the settlement in 1277, and later the town was named after Simon and the tower: 'Simontornya'. The former namesake tower no longer exists. The castle's heyday dates to the first decade of the 16th century. At that time, the massive old tower was built of brick, next to it the new gate tower, but the palace wings also received Renaissance facades adorned with balustrades.
