Smokuški vrh
Continuation of the path along the Brezniške Peči ridge. Nice circular path with today's start in Rodine village. On the northern slope there's still some frozen snow, extra caution needed to avoid slipping.

We did a similar loop yesterday like voluhar last month. It's been fourteen years since the last and then first visit to this beautiful ridge, well, not so bad, sometimes much more time passes nasmeh

Well, yesterday was just the right day to visit this ridge, as the trees started to leaf out, but I think it's worth it in other times too. It's super now, because the mountains around are still nicely white and so the views are nicer.
So, we started at Završniško jezero and at the end of the bridge turned right. We were really amazed by this magical path that runs above the stream of the same name. We wanted to get as close as possible to the edge of the ridge to capture it fully. It was nice wandering, a bit up, a bit down, mostly along the ridge, a little under it too. Varied all the way, some scrambling you can't miss, some more you can seek additionally.
From Smokuški vrh we returned towards Roblekov dom, then to Završnica valley and so did a big loop. We didn't see the branch to Šum waterfall, although we had it in mind to find it. There were so many nice views left and right all the way to the lake, that walking was definitely not too much.

Some Saturday snapshots from a nice hiking and excursion hike starting at Završniško jezero. From the lake off-trail to the ridge and further along the ridge. Before Smokuški vrh we turn left towards the valley to Smokuški bridge, from there along the road to the lake. On the way also to the waterfall Hudič babo pere and Turška glava. Nice hike and excursion.

4.5.2023 On a nice sunny morning we parked at the closed Mercator in Žirovnica. We climbed past Vodohram and soon grabbed the cold rock.
We started carefully, because the ground was still wet from yesterday's rain. Shoe soles smeared with black soil were quite slippery on the rock. Nice, scenic ridge that was worth today's visit. Along the ridge two good connoisseurs led us, who live in the village below.
Already at the start they said they would show us the place in the rock (right by the path) where they see lizards for years. When we got there, they pointed it out to us. All others had already passed by, when I noticed the lizard by the rock. It let itself be photographed nicely. cool

At Sankaška koča we refreshed ourselves and after a short break descended to the church of St. Peter. We looked at it, returned to the hut and went back along the path under the ridge to the starting point.
Nice and scenic ridge that didn't leave us indifferent. Caution is needed in places but it is not demanding. Those few pegs and staples are unnecessary!

that lizard is like tame for locals, just need to watch it doesn't sunbathe on the rock. Could accidentally grab it. Hope now it won't come to someone chasing it.

Be careful guys and gals! Did you peek at the small tower (Peči)? That one is a bit off the trodden traverse, and not many moves to it. I have to go back once more on the sunny side.

if it's the passage to it from the east side Stanko and I just checked it out. But we didn't push onto it because there were more of us we stuck to the group velik nasmeh

If I remember right, it's from that one, yeah. Heinz has it nicely pictured on the first page. It's really distinctive from there to look around. Exactly, the sun beats down nicely there. Sometime again in autumn nasmeh

15.5., "dried out Zofka" and beautiful sunny day. Start at first sign for Mali vrh and continue from saddle Vrh - water intake along the road to the right. At second water intake a path branches right over scree. Sunny path that can continue towards Rodine. Climb towards the ridge and descend to the walking path along the road past HE Žingarica. Great views from ridge and scree. Spring is wonderful. Rocks were wet and path soaked from rain. Slippery but greenery and bird chirping make the day nice. Nice! nasmeh

Since the short break was very close, we went today already kinda in summer a bit up into the quiet and pleasant freshness. From the bridge (Moste), then briefly around the ass into the ravine so we could get almost to the very start of the local beauty. Locals according to reports up there every day cool

Then along it to near the church at the completely other end. In between of course I had to nasmeh

visit the Peči, we laughed about that. Under them someone hung and lit a huge Slovenian flag. Purpose not quite clear zmeden

Later also some short ramp in between quickly sneaked so it wasn't too trodden mežikanje

On the way back we had a good nose and hit all lefts and rights and stumbled along the sunny side in pleasant shade all the way to Žirovnica and after a few minutes hot road at the start. The waterfall a bit higher was again super refreshment. We'll return to this beautiful world.

Did a loop from Žirovnica along the ridge to Sv. Peter above Begunje, return via Završnica valley.

Some years have passed since the last visit and the ridge called us again nasmeh

. It's just right varied, not too short and not too long, and the beeches have just started to green. For the starting point we chose Begunje, so we walked east-west. It's a good choice because of the sun's position, but more demanding in the part where you descend the rocks. Most therefore choose the opposite direction. We returned under the ridge on the south side. Over pastures and forest paths we completely avoided roads and quickly we were back at the start.
