CPP = Celje Hiking Trail

Hiked along the Celje Hiking Trail from the starting point Celje and during the activity ascended 6 peaks - Grajski hrib (407 m), Osenica (453 m), Srebotnik (700 m), Tolsti vrh (834 m), Grmada (718 m), Vipota (532 m). The trail allowed an excellent view into Celje's hinterland. The route has quite a few elevations and peaks - especially Srebotnik - that are varied and require careful steps. The most beautiful is definitely Srebotnik, Tolsti vrh is the highest, Grmada somewhat more spiritual with a cross and bell, Vipota at the end also pleasant and a less visited peak. Weather sunny, paths mostly dry, on Tolsti vrh still some snow patches and some wind that pleasantly cooled me. Trail decently marked but since I soloed today I also ,,got lost a bit,,. More eyes ,,see more,,.

Trail description - Source: PD Grmada Celje

nasmehThis is a hiking trail with the most mežikanje I presume urban-city naming, because there is no Ljubljana or Maribor hiking trail. You practically ,,bag all elevations,, in the first 13 kilometers and therefore the trail is quite dynamic and up to and including Grmada it was necessary to ,,step properly,, then more ,,enjoyment,,. Total 21 kilometers and 1375 elevation meters. Peaks are, according to what was seen and logbook entries, very visited, while connecting paths between them less. Pleasant and maybe repeat sometime - say in winter conditions...

GPS trail: Celje Hiking Trail, 21.04.2013

Since the bridge over Voglajna directly before the outflow into Savinja is currently under renovation the trail is a bit longer. One can start practically in front of the railway station. On descent from Vipota also some fallen trees - especially beeches quite blocking the path on the steeper part. No pics today. Since there are quite a few Celje folks on the forum I presume active, maybe their view mežikanje of Celje Hiking Trail.

Regards Bruno/bruny

This is the route of our yesterday's hike, only we two hikers also scrambled through Hudičev graben, then ground our knees left to Srebotnik. Also in Hudič winter did its part. The path is really nice because of the intermediate views. I think quite a few of us walked it yesterday. Photos will follow during the day.

I'm not from Celje, but will return to this path. Who would think Celje surroundings hide so many interesting peaks.
Safe steps to all.

To the Celje hills partly along the CPP route but far from the entire. Interested in approaches from Štore and from Teharje settlement to the CPP route... From Štore along a picturesque path through Bojanski graben along the torrent stream and continuing to the top of Ramanca or Almina homestead on Svetina in a pleasant autumn setting. Of course also descent to Svetina and from there to the highest peak of Celje hills... Tolsti vrh. Descent done under Srebotnik along the path ,,past Marija,, to Osenca settlement. From Osenca descent to Teharje along a hiking path that hasn't been presented on these pages yet. The path is decently marked, varied and from what seen little... really little walked. The path officially ends at the bridge over Voglajna, on the border between Teharje and Celje... from there return along the elongated Teharje road to Celje and a short ascent/descent to Miklavški hrib for a pleasant finish. Paths mostly dry, although slippery in more closed/unventilated spots, wind was really plenty... GPS track:Tolsti vrh & Sv. Miklavž, 27.10.2013

Yesterday I walked part of the Celje Hiking Trail, skipped only Grmada where I was the year before last and Vipota. The trail is quite nice and long, I set it my way with start and end in Štore.

Correctly done trail... and description excellently supported by blog... Maybe two well-meaning things... Elevation meters on the ,,Pešpoti,, portal in logs are quite ,,inflated,, and need to ,,cut,, 15-20% somewhere, sometimes more. Garmin connect, endomondo... practically infallible and very accurate!! The hill in the blog picture is Veliki Bojanski vrh, correct height data 622 meters, the trees in the picture cover in the blog also Mali Bojanski vrh a bit more to the east, which is exactly 600 meters high. Between them distant a few hundred meters, say two hundred meters leads higher into the world of Celje hills also officially described on this forum path ,,over Žlajfa,,. Both are quite settled from the south side, official hiking path doesn't lead to them, but forestry tracks do from what seen. Twice, three times I planned ascent to them but always backed off somewhere. Let roe deer, wild boars, foxes... have them in mežikanje their solitude. Regards

True, there are deviations on different platforms because Geopedia-Peš poti uses Slovenian geodetic data, Garmin and Google Earth satellite ones; there was already debate about this here on hribi net. I like Geopedia-Peš poti because it draws tracks nicer because landscape orthophotos are nicer than Google's even though Google has newer.

Tempting were also other hills nearby already mentioned Veliki Bojanski vrh, Bavč especially I liked through Suhi potok.

Today on the eastern and central part of Celje Hiking Trail. Start in Štore. Skipped Grmada and Vipota, but to get ,,enough km and elevation,, mežikanjetwice to Srebotnik of course the most interesting point somewhere on the entire trail. Tolsti vrh, highest peak included and strong spiritual point for locals - Marija chapel carved into the wall of Srebotnik. Descent to Celje via Osenca and Old Celje Castle...
Terrain dry, lots of sun and already some light haze...

In evening hiking activity lower world of Celje hills and also part of CPP. Excellent spot Chapel at Marija under 700m high Srebotnik. Connection Štore and Celje and since there was still some time - addition.. descent from Osenca to Teharje to Voglajna river and immediately ascent back to Osenca for finish in Celje. Definitely a route that allows good insight into lower Celje hills world and three times contact with Voglajna river. Soaked and muddy paths, partly clear and practically no wind. Late hour, no recreation seekers anymore on solitary paths...Pešpoti/Štore - Celje and Strava/Štore - Celje, 02.03.2016 Regards

Last week I used a nice sunny day to visit the Old Castle above Celje. Recently I got a new camera and wanted to make some test shots. Once the Celje castle was a very popular destination especially among youth and couples. In the castle there was an open restaurant with popular "castle coffee" which older Celje residents probably remember with nostalgia. In today's time the castle comes alive mainly in summer when various cultural events, concerts, plays etc. take place here... The castle is open every day, inside there's a museum on view, now the renovated Friderik tower is open, offering a beautiful view of Celje and surroundings. At the entrance a new small restaurant is open, where you can also play a game of interesting chess zmeden. Asphalt road leads to the castle, or you can reach it also via the famous Pelikan path. Just a few meters from the castle is the popular gostilna pri Kmetec, famous for really excellent cuisine. nasmehjezik

The nearby and distant surroundings of Celje have plenty of beautiful trails that call for a visit right now. We chose the circular Celje Mountain Trail, adding the small village of Svetine. We didn't regret it, as there's stuff to see there nasmeh. The entire CPP route has nicely groomed and marked paths, many completely new. Recommend.

We parked at the arranged parking lot by the Savinja and continued right on the road1
We turned through the second underpass. Our first goal was Vipota2
Junction from the copse to the forest path. Direction signs are new3
A few fallen pines do not hinder progress4
Vipota, peak without views5
Farmstead in the saddle below Vipota6
The little paths are nice and well-maintained, in places even newly built7
This too is new. Full praise to the authors8

Pečovnikova hut. We were a bit too early, the caretaker had just arrived.14
Celjska hut. Quick service, pleasant rest in the shelter.15
We continued over Tolsti vrh, which boasts a 10 m deep abyss.16
A short detour from CPP brought us to the top of Romanca.17
Under this peak is the huge Almin dom on Svetina.18
Svetina, the last home of Alma Karlin. A small village that has two churches.19
Both have roots in the 14th century, the larger is dedicated to Our Lady of the Snow.20
Behind the church is an old beech tree with huge roots.21
We returned on part of the path, then continued towards Srebotnik.22
The warm, sunny slopes have already summoned spring.23
Srebotnik24
The descent to Pečovlje is steep, in the wet it really slips.25
We had not seen such roofs yet.26
We continue in the direction of Celje Castle.27
The castle was open to visitors, the restaurant too.28
Return. The parking lot was much fuller than in the morning.29
GPS track of the hiked path. It recorded 21 km and 1300 m of ascent.30

Celje Mountain Trail is always a grateful goal. Not too long, not too short and covers quite a bit. It has become our annual staple for when we don't feel like tougher conditions. No snow anymore, first signs of spring already out. Both huts open, visitors only around them. Ski area above Celje Hut still running, but days numbered. In short … nice loop nasmeh.
We park on the edge of Celje and continue by road to the branch for Stari grad1
Some info boards are new, also this one about Babji zob where the castle stands2
In the morning the castle gates were still firmly shut3
View of the valley below. We will return from the opposite end4
The sun quickly did its job. Crust remained only in shady spots5
Farm by the trail. Despite the cold, cows are already out in places6
Climbing to the first summit of CPP, Srebotnik7
At the summit. In the background Grmada and Celjska koča8
Continuing towards Tolsti vrh9
We climb it via an unmarked but well-trodden shortcut10
Secured shaft on Tolsti vrh, over 10m deep11
Consequence of artificial snowmaking nearby12
The ski slope above Celjska koča is still operating13
Here we take our first break14
At Pečovniška koča the atmosphere is completely different from Celjska15
Towards Grmada it is a real highway, well-trodden16
Summit of Grmada17
View from the summit on Celje18
Grmada from another viewpoint19
Lower it crosses the road and climbs the opposite bank20
Spring is almost here. First snowdrops already blooming on sunny slopes21
Vipota is still ahead of us22
The peak is panoramic only in the leafless period, but it has its own stamp box.23
Already descending towards the valley.24
The last part runs on a narrower asphalt road.25
Finishing up. The parking lot is right ahead.26
GPS track of the hiked route. It showed 17 km and 1200 m elevation gain.27

Now that the path to the Alps is difficult, local nearby hills come in handy. Actually, they lack nothing; steepness is exceptional in places.
Yesterday morning via Pelikanova to the castle, via CPP to Srebotnik and Tolsti vrh, past Celje Hut to Grmada and the valley. In the forest pleasantly cool, some places still wet and slippery. Met only two hikers to Celje, then crowds to there and to Grmada. Trail exemplarily marked all the way.
Total 15km, under 1000m ascent, in 4.5 hrs
at six still fog1
