1.DAY - Bech da Mesdi 2727 m, Via Ferrata delle Trincee. Our route took us over the Fernetiči border crossing to Belluno, then to the Passo Fedaia pass where we parked. We headed north of the pass, first climbed to the Rifugio Padon hut, then a longer walk to the start of the delle Trincee ferrata, offering great views of Marmolada and Piz Boe all the way. The route is circular, well protected and steep at times. After the tour we descended via Passo Sella to Val Gardena (Santa Cristina) where we had a reserved apartment. 2.DAY - Gran Cir/Große Cirspitze 2592 m, Val di Funes/Villnöß - Santa Maddalena 1339 m Early morning drive to the Passo Gardena pass, from which we climbed in a good hour to Gran Cir. The path is easy and nowhere exposed, aided by some fixed cables. Since we descended relatively quickly, after lunch we headed to the picturesque village of Santa Maddalena in Val di Funes, whose landscape enchants every visitor. The valley is also the starting point for peaks in the Odle group, where Sass Rigais 3025 m reigns. 3.DAY - Sassopiatto/Plattkofel 2958 m On the last day before the weather worsened we climbed from Passo Sella to our highest planned peak, Sassopiatto. The summit is relatively easily accessible and the only one in the Sassolungo group with a marked path. 4.DAY - Santa Cristina 1428 m On presidential election day there was bad weather in Italy too, so we used the day to see the village where we were staying. Windy, snow line down to 1700 m. 5.DAY - Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm, Puflatsch Bullaccia 2174 m From Ortisei by gondola to Alpe di Siusi, which we traversed entirely, also conquering Puflatsch Bullaccia. One of the few gondolas running this season. I warmly recommend a visit to everyone going to the Dolomites. 6.DAY - Seceda 2518 m From the apartment we climbed to 2518 m high Seceda, popular with many hikers. We did a nice loop tour passing several lakes. Next day we packed and headed home. 30.6. I was in the Dolomites - Tre Cime di Lavaredo. Weather was cloudy, no heat, around 4°C. Almost no snow left, only in some sinkholes, gullies mostly on north slopes. Parked at hotel Dolomitenhof, place Moos near San Candido. Parking around 5-10€, plenty of it. Hut was still closed but opened on 1.7. PZS members have discount on services, so a bit cheaper next time. :P Staff in hut mostly Balkan, so no language issues. Path is excellent. Recommend liner gloves, at least for those of you who are cold-natured . To the top of rocks (Middle 2.999m) access only by free climbing. You have two shorter ferratas on two other peaks, so via ferrata kit not superfluous... Some pics and good luck...

Hi, I'd kindly ask for some advice and suggestions for nice day trips/tours/easy ferratas in the Dolomites. We'll be located in Arabba. I've already browsed some forum pages and guidebooks, but some personal experiences on where it's worth going would be great.

Hi, I'll add my little pot too. We also want to go family-style to exactly that area this year, any more ideas for paths with WWI remains. Apparently there's one through tunnels (Rifugio Lagazuoi). I know there's a description online, but I'm also interested in experiences, some tip... Any ideas for affordable apartments nearby. Thanks.

Arabba's home mountain is Piz Boe ; I'd connect the tour over the summit to hut Boe, from there to Cima Pisciadu and past lake and hut to Gardena pass (logistics-public transport needed first?). That would take a full day, but great tour, can shorten with cable car from Pordoi pass. Nice tour to Sassopiatto. Another like that from Falzarego pass over Croda Negra to Averau, Nuvolau maybe Cinque Torri and back. And from Falzarego pass to Lagazuoi through caves (light and helmet mandatory), past hut to summit and via Kaiserjaegersteig (more demanding) or path towards pass: a) Valparola -a bit longer, b) path towards Falzarego pass-short touristy. Not far from Arabba Passo Fedaia, from where ridge around hut Padon full of war remains, full of trenches and remains also towards Col di Lana, nicely reachable from Valparola pass. Map in hands and study a bit also ask-you know how much you can walk per day.

Hello! I've browsed many blogs already but still need some advice. In August for 4 days with the group we're heading to Dolomites. First time visiting Dolomites, no special experiences. Plan 8-10 hours walking per day. Tours can include some ferratas, harder mountain paths. Mainly interested in which tours, mountains you recommend, accommodations... Any info welcome. Thanks and best regards.

Are you advising this from the map or from your own experiences, as I've already walked all that. Days 1 and 2 are no more than 5h of walking each, but day 3 is ca 13h, since you are combining 3 ferratas - Severino Casara, Cengia Gabriella and Aldo Roghel into one tour. Not to mention the last day; after the strenuous ascent to Passo Sentinella, the north slope of Elferja to F undici may be impassable without winter gear (don't even try to cross there without it). We made it across the last day of August 2016?, but we have also seen multiple times from Crode Rosse di Sessto, mid-August the ledge and all couloirs completely iced up, and this year it could be the same. But definitely one of the priority tasks of discovering the Dolomites is visiting this corner - I can't get enough of it....

Days 1 and 2 with visit to Torre di Toblin and Crode Fiscaline are even with family more than five hours. Third day not even with family 13 hours, and it can also be shortened directly from Pian di Cengia to Rif. Carducci under the north face of Croda dei Toni (without ferrata Casara). Last day without winter gear don't even try, but instead we can go from Passo Sentinella to Croda rossa di Sesto, although thus we forgo Strada degli Alpini. Primera countless...

@megalodon; there are a lot of remains from the First World War in those areas. First option; Monte Lagazuoi is actually an open-air museum. Starting point for visiting this mountain is Passo Falzarego, where you can park the car, rent helmets and flashlights (if you don't have them) and go through the tunnels towards the mountain top. Price for renting one set is 10€. The path is well described on the boards at the starting point itself. First you walk about an hour on the marked path to the entrance to the gallery (tunnels) and then another hour through the tunnels to the top (Rifugio Lagazuoi). From here it's another approx. 10-15 minutes to the mountain top (Monte Lagazuoi). On the way you might meet some soldier from the 1st World War (for tourist purposes, who will explain how it was back then). You can also reach this same mountain via a very nice and marked path bypassing the tunnels, or directly by gondola. Second option; two kilometers from Passo Falzarego is Passo Valparola. Here is a military museum from the 1st World War. It's also the starting point for Sasso di Stria mountain, where you can also observe huge remains from the first war. To the top of the relatively easy path is cca 1 hour. Third option; Passo Pordoi pass, where there is also a museum from the first World War. Fourth option; Marmolada mountain. Starting point is Malga Ciapela place, where you park the car. From here a gondola goes to Punta Rocca mountain, where remains from the first World War are also visible. Somewhere in the middle of the gondola path you need to change. Here is located (besides everything needed that interests tourists) also a military museum. Viewing is free or included in the gondola price (at least it used to be). I believe there are still huge other remains and monuments in the Dolomites, as the front line ran through these areas.
