Do you want to climb one of the cimes or see them from below? If you want to walk around or even do a circuit, just drive to Auronzo hut; ascent on them was at least years ago when I visited in the climbing domain.

As predecessor wrote, around Three Cimes circular path: Auronzo - Lavaredo - Locatelli - Auronzo, lasts about three hours with nice views on Three Cimes.

We slept last year at Gardena pass - Cir and Valparola pass - namesake hut, prices around 60 eur half board. Much cheaper is the Auronzo hut, where mountaineers have a discount. But toll road there, so this location is suitable if heading to Tre Cime area.

In Cortina there are 4 camps, reasonable prices. I like Olympia best.
CAI huts ok too, discount for PD members. But for multi-day tours, not as "base camp".
Apartments in Cortina... well if you have really too much money cool

18.6.2022 we visited Cortina d'Ampezzo again with the family and climbed up to Cinque Torri, partially circled them and in the afternoon visited the beautiful Lake Misurina.

In Cortina, Misurina, Passo Giau and Santa Maddalena (and a few spots) we were already mid-June 2019, but what a temperature and landscape change: back then good 15C; on Passo Giau blowing like crazy and large snow patches and brown grass; even in Cortina it felt like April. Three years later boom crash tresk vau velik nasmeh

Well, I went there for the first time, with family and friends to the Dolomites.jezik
First day we did the Passo Furcia - Kronplatz/Plan de Corones 2275 m trail. Just enough 500 m elevation gain to move the legs after a long drive, past the nice Graziani hut to the summit, where there's everything you could want... well, and of course very, very many people.zavijanje z očmi Followed by a drive to our modest cottage, surrounded by no less than three hotels, where in one the price per person per day was equal to our cottage's daily price.eek We were very close to Lago di Braies lake, entry to this natural park for day tourists is not possible between 9.30 and 16.00, so you also hand over your vehicle's registration number so you don't have problems during the entry ban period.nasmeh
Second day we drove to the Prato Piazza 1991 m starting point, toll 10 €, uphill driving not possible between 10.00 and 15.00. Followed ascent to Picco di Vallandro 2839 m, the path is easy to the subpeak, then a slightly harder section to the top. We descended to the Rifugio Vallandro hut, where the others had coffee or rather our youngest tested strudel/pastry at every hut, while I went to the "strudel" Strudelkopf/Monte Specie 2309 m, which is an excellent viewpoint if you have nice weather of course.velik nasmeh
For the third day the others chose the path from the cottage to Lago di Braies lake, but I already left in the dark from the cottage to the Croda del Becco 2810 m summit, because I wanted to be on top around 8 o'clock for the views, as clouds gathered quickly every day. From the lake ascent to the summit via Forcella Sora Forno saddle and descent back to the lake via Forcella de Riciogogn saddle. On the summit I alone enjoyed the views of peaks unknown to me.zadrega
Fourth day afternoon showers were forecast, so we drove to Prato Piazza once more and this time walked together to Strudelkopf, from which the views were worse this time.
Fifth day the famous Tre Cime or rather how to even get to the starting point when at 8 o'clock there's such a crowd in Misurina that you can barely moveeek and of course forget about driving on the road for which you have to pay 30 € per car, as the upper parking lot was already full. If we saw correctly the road is open from 6.00 to 23.00. Where to now and we were already at Passo Tre Croci 1809 m pass and went to the Rifugio Son Forca 2235 m hut, a very nice hut offering nice views. Hope dies last and around 14 o'clock we went to check Tre Cime once more, there was no ban sign anymore, after a short wait the barrier also opened for us into that crowded kingdomjezik and at 15 o'clock we were already on our circular path.mežikanje
So we were there for the first time, most likely not the last, next time I'll definitely be first at the Tre Cime barriervelik nasmeh, to see them in the morning sun and of course some peak besides, as this time it was more of a family vacation.mežikanje

Bos, nice description, but I didn't fully understand what you meant by entry to Braies park. In September I also plan with group to visit that lake on return from Dolomites, but as you said, midday entry not possible?
For peaks near Tre Cime I recommend Monte Paterno and Torre di Toblin.

As far as I understood in that time you can't enter park unless accommodation inside park, because we had to give reg numbers for both cars and then it prints at entry you have permit and cop lets you through. After 16 no one at control anymore, of course buses drive through to Lago di Braies lake or also Prato Piazza and Tre Cime. Maybe in September different regime.
Thanks for recommendation, had it in mind if we'd come up early morning.

Parking reservation regime changes on 11.9., until then entry is impossible from 9h-16h, unless booked parking or hotel accommodation

Nice description and nice photos. Once you come to Dolomites, hard to stop. Ten years vacationing in these areas, usually 10 days each, so we've hiked and crossed quite a bit.
Wish you nice wanderings in South Tyrol in coming years.

From 15-18.08.2024 I was with PD Rašica Ljubljana on four-day tour on circular path Alta via del Granito. The hike lasts four days. Start at parking on pasture Sorgazza-Malga Sorgazza-1420m. First peak we conquered Cimon Rava -2309m. So already almost 1000m elevation gain. First hut Rifugio Malga Caldenave. Second hut Caldenave-here no sleeping spots. One day then slept in hut Rifugio Malga Conseria. After sleep continued to our last hut for two nights' sleep. Saddle above hut 2518m high. Descended to hut Rifugio Cima d'Asta Brentari. At hut wonderful lake. I rested here with colleague. Two groups went to different heights. This hut has cargo cableway. Fourth day descended to start. Except last day wonderful weather. Enjoyed and searched alpine flowers. Found loads of them.

Last week of August I would also go to the Dolomites a bit, but I really don't know where to start. I wouldn't sleep in huts, but down below, and then hike up (if that sounds logical).
I'd be happy for some tips where it's best to stay overnight, or how to move between places. If possible not too commercialized, even better. nasmeh

Tough with accommodations, I was looking for mid-September already in May (for a group of 15 people), and what would suit me was all booked (Auronzo hut, Valparola, Gardena pass). For tours it depends what is acceptable for you - easier, shorter tours or longer ones, or via ferratas.

Kafetarca21. 08. 2024 14:43:07
Regarding tours - all are fine except alpine climbing. I don't feel like via ferratas, but no problem if it's a very demanding secured path. Actually I just need some starting point, because I don't know the Dolomites at all and have no idea where to even start looking for tours.
