Gora Oljka

Today I ascended from Dobrič (village above Polzela) to Gora Oljka. I descended to Rečica ob Paki, then ascended back to the starting point via Martinova pot. All three mentioned paths are trodden. Snow up to 15cm. LP Tadej

Plans to the mountains fell into RAIN already in the morning!
At 6:30 it was raining so much that I returned to bed and enjoyed winter thunder!
Afternoon even more rain, shortly before 16 the sun shines for a moment and clears rainy fogs.
In a second decision made and I'm driving to Gora Oljki. Soon rain drops again and I drive to Juga (inn below G.O.). In a moment I choose steep path (Martinova pot) and rush to the top. Soon I miss hiking poles, which I forgot at home in a hurry. Path turns into muddy slippery slide. Snow barely a trace. Soon at top - some photos and quick back (getting dark). At top strong west wind blows bringing rain clouds. Descent even more attractive - but I manage return without fall despite very slippery terrain.
At Francelnu (inn Jug) I drink glass of homemade (has acid that gives appetite) and in pitch dark head home. On windshield again rain drops!

You really have the will to have gone to the mountains yesterday.

I immediately felt better, even if it was just a short jump to the mountains. When it grabs me - it pulls me and I go (wife no longer wonders..mrk pogled )
I visit mid-mountains and nearby hills even in bad weather (but more cautious for high mountains) Nature is beautiful whether it thunders, rains, snows or the sun shines (in any weather)

Geppo I fully agree with you that nature is beautiful, whether it rains or the sun shines.
Gora Oljka is of course the jewel of our Savinja Valley!

And one more thing. Given the weather you took nice photos, bravo!

Thanks!
without a camera I really don't go anywhere. The hikers are most happy about it, because they can catch their breath a bit (while I deal with photography). Also, I take the opportunity to praise the caretakers at the hut on G.O. (Možina family) for good food and friendliness!

"It's a sin for that mountaineer who is in the valley today", so an old mountaineer stated years ago on a sunny New Year's day at Čemšenika. The same applies today, when it was really an exceptionally nice day allowing beautiful clear views of nearby and distant peaks and sunbathing in front of the nicely arranged hut;
also such towards Kamnik-Savinja Alps with the venerable Grintovec at the forefront.

From Slatine - past Bajht - then straight on (towards South) past these vineyards (dry walls) - Martinova pot - G.O. and back (at Bajht) a little rest and back to Slatine for the car.

Thanks, just one thing I'd point out - last photo (Grintovec) - that prominent mountain in the middle of the picture is Ojstrica.
Nice evening to you too..

Thanks for the explanation, I thought it was the roof of Grintovec; because I like it so much, although it's strenuous, I involuntarily confuse it; yes at Bajht it's nice, also the path further to Andraž, for a nice shady walk in summer when the sun bakes and no time to go higher; I haven't gone to G.O. by this path yet, I'll use it gladly -thanks; lp

Around 2 pm the sun peeks out for a moment. I look towards Mt. O. and in an instant I'm hurrying towards it. I test myself a bit in speed and when my Polar alerts me - I slow down the ascent speed a bit.
>My Polar< are ears that detect the ticking from the neck vessels. When I clearly hear the heartbeat - then I know to reduce speed. On the summit I'm happy with the time and know I'm in old form. Around the hut on Mt. O. it already smells of fried onions (goulash). All preparations for May 1st are underway. This spot is very popular for annual May Day celebrations.
Caretakers are trying hard - they only worry about WEATHER FORECAST!
On the way back, coming out of the forest, my gaze drifts to the Zasavje hills - I realize I'll be soaked soon!
Shortly after, thunderstorm catches me in the forest - I don't worry (keep going).
Hope we have some nice day these days for mountain visits.
Wish everyone nice celebrations and of course some nice ascent...

Before the announced new weather deterioration, it was necessary to use today's Monday for some exercise in nature, so my brother and I headed to Gora Oljka; along the road, nicely plowed and "graveled". Footprints in the freshly blown snow ahead indicated that someone overtook us despite the relatively early morning hour; hut unfortunately closed (don't know for how long?), table and benches outside completely snowed in, some note behind the door but unreadable due to frozen window; the only regular resident - the cat, hid above the door warming behind the sign; tea from the backpack was very welcome to refresh the throat, then off back to the valley; on the way down we encounter on a larger road bend quite torn up road, full of crushed plastic, battered rock by the road and front car grille with lights; obviously the smarter one gave up - car, driver overestimated the conditions.

The hut on Gora Oljka is open every day of the week except on Mondays, when it is closed. Otherwise, get all info on GSM: 041 790 618 Mr. Možina Uroš.

Snowy morning drew us to nature. Plan for today was Gora Oljka. Early morning up, clear some snow then towards G.O.
Praise!!, sidewalk from Breg to Polzela already cleared at 7am.
In Podvin we split - two by road - two go and break trail past "Grofturn". Also from inn "Pri Jug" we choose Martin path. Predecessor went ahead so we didn't break trail all the way to hut. Returned via Križev path and broke trail to Jug. There we meet again (other two went by well plowed road) - learn about Monday slaughter. Without thinking we agree for Wednesday afternoon dinner when meat settles a bit.
Weather variable
- rain
- heavy snowfalls
Road to G.O. plowed - better than in valley!!
trail broken:
- Podvin - "Grofturn"
- Jug / Martin path and Križev path
