Hiking boots

I've worn La Sportiva Lycan GTX model last 8 years purely for all high mountain tours except winter and first ones lasted me almost 6 years.
Really very satisfied, bought two more pairs myself last two years.

Lycan is an excellent shoe! I have it for running and hikes, longer and shorter.

Another vote for La Sportiva. For runs I used Bushido, Mutant and Akasha. For approaches Raptor, also in Gore-Tex version.
Super shoes, quality and robust.

I also welcome the suggestion from @n3jc.
One "approach" pair for more demanding tours (high mountains and pathless terrain), for macadam, walks, mid-mountains something lighter, i.e. trekking boot.

It's definitely a shame to wear tough approach shoes on easier terrain. Besides being harder, such shoes usually have rubber with better grip that wears faster (shame to wear them on easy terrain with lots of km, asphalt even worse).

Trekking boots on the other hand should have a less grippy sole, but a harder one, for more km on easier terrain. At the same time the shoe is softer and more flexible, which fits that purpose better. They will be ok for tours like Blegoš, Ratitovec etc.

You'll wear out both anyway velik nasmeh, but in theory with two separate pairs you'll get the most km from each if used for their purpose.

Hope I didn't smartass too muchvelik nasmeh , ciao

Current shoe portfolio, bought gradually over last 5 years

1. Alpina Royal V 23: bought based on above recommendations, this is shoe for ~70EUR for all flat stuff where tons of km accumulate, shame for better shoes.
2. Scarpa mescalito mid - its last year. High mountains beat it in few tours (thin sole), after sole change to non-original saw much mid-mountains and some easy peaks, now time up. Don't remember price, today would buy again if want comfort, but due to robustness experience probably not soon.
3. Scarpa mescalito low - impulsive buy as got for ok money - 110 EUR. Gradually replaces mid. nasmeh Really comfortable, actually more than mid.
4. La Sportiva boulder X - did some hardest tours last years with it, robust ovr. Bought for 100EUR super quality for price. Super for rocky terrain need grip. In field better half size larger, but still like wearing, no1 choice for some harder tours.
5. La Sportiva boulder X mid - last year buy my fav shoe. Bought half size larger than low, ideal hybrid for my needs on harder tours. More comfy than low, but maybe due half larger size. nasmeh
6. Kayland some winter don't know which: pure ok. Would try something from this firm.

All this sounds like lots of cash, but pairs bought gradually and reached balance where avg one pair lasts 1-2 years, one new comes. Much better than years ago when had only mountain boots.

Pretty good discussion on hiking or trekking boots.
Preparation with boots for tomorrow's tour. But look at that sparrow.
Maybe someone can answer my question. How and why?
After a few winter tours, last one Smrekovec, this happened as the photos show. Boots not worn many times, as we mostly use the summer-winter combo.

This is common with shoes not used for a long time.

Yes, Tadej, thanks for the answer, maybe so, hard to believe.
So no chance for any complaint, since they weren't cheap.

ShoeDOCTOR is authorized by La Sportive and does an excellent job. Besides repairing climbing shoes, we have replaced soles on two winter boots already. Very satisfied.

Hello. I'd like an opinion on LA SPORTIVA TRANGO TRK LEATHER GTX boots. Are they suitable as summer boots, or maybe too warm?

Hi, these are trekking boots for dry hikes, they shouldn't be too warm.
I have a slightly stiffer model, Tech GTX, also for summer hikes. lpm

In my career I've had many boots. Some I wore more gladly, others less.
Lately I have Salomon X ULTRA 4 MID GTX, mid-height, very light and I'm superrrr satisfied with them. Grip is also super. Overall I've switched to mid-height, as light as possible models. Even after 6h for example the foot is 'rested', but really they are not for real rock. Nor for slabs, but scree or karst. Incredibly robust, both sole and the rest.

Then I also have Hoka Anapaka. Also very comfortable, but they wear out quickly. Especially the sole. If you get them for say 100€ YES, otherwise too expensive given durability.
For more climbing objectives I have Scarpa Mescalito. Also very comfortable, stable, super climbing boot. Maybe the sole wears a bit fast.

For autumn mud then Alpina Helios.

Last time I got The North Face mid-height in outlet for 60€, but haven't fully tested them yet.

I wouldn't say the sole on Salomon X ULTRA 4 is robust. On rockier terrain it wears quickly. I had them on three short high mountain hikes and in some parts the profile was almost gone. Since then I use heavier, stiffer boots and they perform much better.

On the internet I found an interesting link on the topic of different ways of lacing hiking boots, if someone has issues with boots or feet. Maybe useful for someone.

Which shoe would be suitable for winter tours above 2000m and not too expensive, any suggestions?
