Holy Trinity (1106 m) above Pivka (548 m)

Today, I, Esther and Tadej went to the 1106 m high Holy Trinity above Pivka. Starting point was Slovenska vas(566 m), from there a three-hour walk to the top. Weather wasn't really favorable to us, it was cloudy, a light to moderate wind was blowing, in gusts also strong bora, the windiest was at the top itself or at the church of Holy Trinity.

Snow except some remnants, almost none, only a few cm of frozen snow at the top.

Beautiful, high karst peak and solitary and forgotten. Did you meet Martin Krpan on the path?.

Yesterday with climbing mate at Holy Trinity above Pivka. Path was very good to the very top. Just below top bora, fog and cold hit us. Visibility negligible.

On Sunday smaller group PD Ajdovščina from Postojna train station. Very cold -7, but clear here and there little wind otherwise wonderful weather. On top windy and devilishly cold. Down valley past Petelinsko lake to Slovenska vas. It was unique from cca 800m 15-20cm snow.velik nasmeh

Soon I have a guided trip from Postojna to St. Trinity and further to Pivka. Although going on a scouting tour, I'm interested in how the path is marked.

From Postojna towards Pečna reber sign for Sv Trinity right. At the beginning well marked then less and less. Important to reach the closed area where we leaned the signpost-first picture. There turn right and after 100m you reach the path there go left on the path and reach the hunting hut from there onwards again quite well marked. Down from the top is better marked we went to Slovenska vas. And best regards Bogdan.nasmeh

And a nice day is behind us, tomorrow back to work.
The more experienced equipped with crampons and ice axes conquered snowy peaks and enjoyed the whiteness of pristine nature.
We went on a nice, walking tour and equally enjoyed the wonderful views and sunshine. My gaze wandered towards the snowy Julians, Karavanks, Kamniks ....

Yesterday's trip to St. Trinity was an excellent decision. Start from Trnje, very nicely marked, at the beginning the path quite steep, then through the forest really pleasant. On the part where the sun doesn't reach there was still snow, but the coming spring is just too strong. So the path on that part was full of mud and puddles. A bit more and it will be better. When you come out of the forest and further towards the top it was really pleasant, a little windy. Views also to Julians, Karavanks.. In short it was a nice spring day. Lp nasmeh

We walked to St. Trinity from Slovenska vas. Nicely marked and easy path to 1123m high viewpoint, with view of watery Petelinje lake (after so much rain I really don't wonder nasmehand far around, as much as the cloudiness allowed. At the top cold wind that chased us towards the valley. On the way down we even got some sun. Interesting...on the path we chatted with an Italian couple and an Englishman...Slovenians though, except us nowhere.. even the dogs are ex Irish and Spanish nasmeh

Hello, Ksena!

Praise for the ascent - we, in the basin, got a bit scared of the wind so we admired St. Trinity more from afar (from shelter)mežikanje

Just 1 correction: on photo 8 is the largest Pivka lake - Palško jezero (near Palčje village). (Petelinjsko Lake is also nicely visible from St. Trinity and is a bit more towards Postojna - north, it's on photo 16.)

Nice photos, that day visibility wasn't exactly the bestnasmeh

m@, thanks for the correction and new knowledge nasmeh. I was convinced that, given all the water the lake has, it was "spilled" all the way to Palško jezero. Now I know a bit more nasmeh. That day visibility was really poorer, but still quite good, on the top the cold wind chilled the young ones. Need to repeat in sunny weather mežikanje.

The very special marking on photo no.4. is said to have been made by stonemason priest Vid Premrl. "His" are also the angels on Nanos and many things on the little church of St. Urban on the slope of Vremščica.
@viharnik and @Hribovc88, the Bločani wouldn't agree with you. Martin Krpan and his mare are from the other Holy Trinity (on the Bloke plateau).

Hello!

ksena@ - the claim about the lake connection is not far from the truth; this watershed is all connected, if not above ground then underground - even with Planinsko poljemežikanje

laščan@ - the author of the special markings (on photos 4 and 5) is surely the priest, Mr. Vid Premrl. Besides the mentioned artworks (angels on Nanos and things on the church of sv. Urbana on Vremščica) also things on the church of sv. Brica (on Nanos) and probably elsewhere.

Regarding Martin Krpan... artistic freedomzmeden
- Levstik did live for some time in Pivka basin - at Kalc castle (near Zagorje) as home tutor for Miroslav Vilhar, but he came there already after the publication of Martin Krpan.
But still viharnik@ and Hribovc88@ are right about Pivka St. Trinity as Krpan'snasmeh
To list some facts in favor of the claim that Martin Krpan was a Pivčan (resident of Pivka basin):
- he meets the emperor in harsh winter on the emperor's path Vienna-TS so-called Triest road and Martin says: "home I'm from the Top of St. Trinity, two hours walk from here" - which is near St. Trinity and for a guy who's on the road every day and knows all shortcuts, probably possible to reach in 2 hours,
- when Martin angrily parts from the emperor he says; "even at your place I haven't and won't get such service as in Razdrtem at Klinčar" - Razdrtem is also on Krpan's path from larger towns towards St. Trinity,
- Pivčani were known carriers and hauled everywhere; Martin lists some larger towns, that he was already in Rijeka, Koper, Vrhnika and Ljubljana - one of the old smuggling paths leads from Pivka to Loška dolina right under St. Trinity,
- the village Vasišče on St. Trinity also existed - experts say it's documented in urbaries,
- from St. Trinity Bile and Poček are visible (now part of military training area, but the beauty of the buildings can still be felt), which were branches of Lipica stud farm, their lands reached right to St. Trinity, nearby there were two more branches of Lipica stud farm - Prestranek and Škule...

I myself know only 1 claim that speaks in favor of the Bločanizadrega; when Levstik describes Martin's offense: "Like lightning behind Mokrcem,"- Mokerc is indeed closer to Bloke, but also close to Velike Lašče from where Levstik was from home and knew exactly how it lightens behind Mokrcem.

So...nasmehnot exactly the most mountaineering writing, but it was a challenge, not to be silent...zavijanje z očmi

Hello!

ksena@ - yes it is and it's good that we don't go to the mountains just to go walking and see nothing. Nice if we learn something more... but it's not my habit to 'ramble so much'mežikanje

hribovc88@ - There are more Holy Trinities. Also Čepljani in Košanska valley have theirs - 689m on which the church of Holy Trinity also stands and there you werenasmeh Krpan's Holy Trinity is this one described above that you described rightzmeden and is located in Pivka basin and is a bit higher.
(Sorry, I know formal you isn't your favorite but that's how I was raisedmežikanje)
