I'm wondering if this K24 loop is really well marked enough....

Here are the route profile and gpx, which it's definitely smart to download. K24

What about Govca? Isn't it necessary to visit the highest peak of Olševa too?

True Jure. I admit I didn't check the track, it seemed to me that on the website (koroska.si) where I found the link to it, it should be the right route. But I think everything else holds, to Govca you really need to detour (and return the same way to the route).

You have to watch out whether you have the track from the ultra trail K-24 or from k-24. These are two different routes, Gresta covers both routes approximately 90% together. One is competitive, otherwise I don't feel like explaining it. Let the one who pulled this off do it.

So, if I'm concluding correctly, the K24 trail isn't marked with direction signs or blazes. So it's better not to head out alone on this trail I don't know, if it's not marked 100%. I know all these Carinthian mountains and I've been there several times, but the trail between the mountains worries me.... It would be nice if the trail was marked with direction signs and blazes... I can't get or find anyone who's already walked this trail and who'd be willing to repeat it with me. I've already asked around here too....

Otherwise, Carinthia is the most beautiful region in Slovenia for me and the caretakers at all mountain huts are very friendly. I'd especially praise the caretakers at the Smrekovec hut and the Peca hut. Once again! If anyone in Slovenia knows this trail and would be willing to repeat it with me in August, let me know. I'll be very grateful. Uroš

Uroš, look, when I first went on this trail, I'd been to all the peaks before. (even in young school years). I invested a lot of time in stage hikes, so I found out where the water springs are, how much time from peak to peak etc. I did that one summer (not every day) but quite often. With that I learned the trail, also put some signs back "upright". At first just kicked some branch off the path. Then it bothered me more how poorly the trail was marked-cleaned. SPP from Andrej's hut to Kramarce was completely overgrown on some sections, I started sawing and cutting bushes, branches with scissors. After some years I marked whole K-24 at key spots with reflective blazes. Especially Peca. That's the toughest. To cut short, only from Vodol pasture over Raduha to Upper ridge I didn't do much in these 20 years. The rest of the loop I cleaned entirely. Back to start, when I knew the whole trail so neither dark nor fog could stop me I set off on K-24. I did it as second in its second year, since I didn't sign right away I have No. 34. In my loops I was there or helped over 30 club members. Didn't see your ZS cuz sometimes I don't look, then it was even moved. People who get around the easy way aren't to my liking. If I take someone along I need to know how prepared that person is cuz I've had cases where some really underestimated it. Then even I didn't make it. I'm going around with a group this week, quite a few of us already.

Nicely written Janezs. I completely understand you. Of course there's a big chance that I won't make this K24 and neither would the one going with me... I saw some direction signs for K24 on the way to Smrekovec from Uršlja gora. What worries me most is the trail from Travnik hut to Loka hut under Raduha and from Olševa to Peca peak, the rest I know 100%.

K-24 runs along mountain trails, there aren't many of those additional green signs. Nowadays, the trail is much better marked. Peca-Kumer, much better trodden (visible path). (But the section right at the border is narrow and overgrown again, but now everyone walks the same path. So the path is quite followable. 10-20 years ago there were several poorly trodden paths because the main one was overgrown. From your description on the forum I conclude that you haven't done a scouting trip from Travnik to Loka yet, nor Olševa Kumer-Peca. Unknown trails are best walked during daylight, at night it's anyway a bit harder. Me and some friends are heading out soon on the trail (all repeating). We can arrange via ZS. Best regards.

@UROS1 No criticism, just my personal opinion or thinking. Some things that we manage ourselves and finally succeed with a little effort are worth much more to me than such safe approaches where someone shows you everything. Exploring unknown trails has its charm, all we need is a map, some sense of orientation and of course all the obvious mountaineering skills without which we wouldn't tackle such long tours anyway. Best regards.

Yes, thanks. Understood! I have no problem with orientation, mostly I hike alone, even in Austrian mountains and I've never gotten lost, though I've seriously missed the path sometimes.... It's mainly about time for me, I'm afraid if I miss somewhere or search I'll lose too much time and the 24h won't work out. Does anyone have more photos of the trail between Peca peak and Olševa and between Loka hut and Travnik hut? Only that part worries me. Is that part very well signed and marked?

UROS1 take your time and hike it in stages. When you're sure you know the trail well, and if you still have the will, do it 1x, 2x, 3x... With pleasure! Best, good luck!

For such cases I recommend the Locus Map app, it also has hiking trails. I used that last year on SPP. You miss the marking, go past, look at the app and it nicely shows your location and you immediately know where to go.

Now there's a whole study on K-24, and in the end Uroš will say he did the route alone, without help. Uroš, what would be wrong if it didn't work out in 24 hours? Nothing. The challenge would remain for next time.
