Klek (1753)

@Gita ...and in the forest the wild capercaillie was strolling... we met eye to eye :-)

Eye to eye would be better, since the poor guy is without left eye, so he always aims you to his right side.
It's really nice to see him, hope we don't disturb him too much.

Yesterday in somewhat uncertain weather to Klek from Betel past the shepherd's hut on Planina Možine (not sure about the name of the mountain pasture, someone correct me) and over Jekljevo sedlo. The path to the junction of the trail that crosses the southern slopes of Golica is unmarked, but until recently there was a sign there directing to Koča na Golici. Now it's gone and the turnoff is easily overlooked, especially on the way back. How very nice it was here

Today I gave up about a hundred meters below the summit, because I once experienced walking on the rubble in rotten snow on this ridge in similar conditions. I made at least two mistakes on this exceptionally warm day; I started too late and since Jeseniška planina is windblown, I left the snowshoes at the hut. For the path from Planina pod Golico to Jeseniška planina and the summit ridge, snowshoes were suitable today, crampons and ice axe stayed in/on the backpack. Overall a nice tour, just more strenuous due to wet snow. Some pics on the link

I drove the car past the church of St. Cross to Planina pod Golico and parked by Črni potok. There's very little space, but the locals are exceptionally friendly and no problem. When I'm not soaking wet, like yesterday, I always chat with someone.

Make sure to wait until the snow freezesnasmeh Otherwise I really like the variant of returning via the mentioned path, ascending to the ridge to Izidor from Rogarjev rovt and past Hruška planina straight up. In dry conditions you can extend over Golica and descend via Suha saddle to Planina pod Golico. Of course this idea requires some "magic" with logistics, but it's definitely worth itvelik nasmeh.

Today I visited both; Klek and Hruški vrh. Each was a bit different, but I connected them into one loop trail.

Road to Zakamnik drivable, to Rožca lots of bare ground, at the saddle huge crusts that break through. Klek bare, HV more snow, towards summit windblown by the fence, not much snow at summits of both. On descent from HV summit from bare parts to windblown snow that breaks through.

Today in wonderful weather to Klek. Snow is rather little, at Planina pod Golico a couple cm, above Jeseniška planina up to 30 cm. Only at windblown spots more, but didn't sink more than to knees. Jeseniška planina windblown almost to ground, so too early for skiers. Still caught two carrying skis to upper edge of planina. Only there put on gaiters. No other winter gear needed. At summit wonderful views, sky cloudless and almost no wind. From summit continued along ridge and edge of planina to hunting stand. There descended further down to hunting hut, then to timber yard and back to start.

For ascent to Klek I chose Plavški rovt as start. By car to Zakamnik, then skis over Martinčev rovt and Jeseniška planina to summit. Road nicely snow-covered and from Martinčev rovt to junction with path from Planina pod Golico completely untouched - here and there just some not quite fresh bear tracks. Further on walking excellent on slightly crusty surface.
Skiing from summit to Jeseniška planina excellent on slight slush, then on road with southern snow slower.

In case anyone is interested. Path to Klek and Hruški vrh from Planina pod Golico is basically bare. Couple patches of snow in between hardly worth mentioning. Interesting that today we didn't meet a single person on the whole path and also no one visible on Dovska baba and Golica.

Up from Planina pod Golico, descended via Poldov rovt. Snowshoes needed, doesn't sink more than to the ankles. On the return occasional clatter on snowshoes.

Jeseniška planina from Planina pod Golico... Around the shepherd's hut on the planina everything is yellow from dandelion flowers. Higher up intoxicating narcissus scents. At this time they also bloom on Rožca saddle. Paths pleasant, solitary and no crowds.nasmeh
