Yesterday's (28.1.2018) Komen was wonderful. Start from parking Berožnik and straight across Krumpaška planina to Krnes and on to Komen.

Once a year I surely visit Smrekovo plateau. On Komna at this time hairy hawkweed and white pasqueflower abound, on Smrekovec with luck you find Koch's marmot too.

Yes. Otiv, our range is really beautiful; and it'll be even more beautiful when cranberries bloom on Komen. Didn't you turn to Black Lake? Pristine, wild and solitary in its beauty, it is.

The sign for Končnik's puddle/Black Lake is so remote, or hidden, that most hikers miss it when crossing Smrekovško ridge.

On this path we didn't turn to the little lake... first concern were the flowers. velik nasmeh

We postponed the birthday hike for quite some time. Sometimes weather, other times incomplete attendance. Today we finally managed it. The birthday boy got two same numbers (66), which was the reason for today's trip across Smrekovško ridge.
Drove to the hut below Smrekovec. Then continued on foot along the north side of the ridge to Končnik's puddle. There snack and a bottle of good wine. Continued on hunting trails to the ridge leading to Komen. Along the ridge, where two male participants avoided it a bit due to fear of steep walls cool

. The female part of the team, of course braver and without detour.
Komen - then continued along the sunny ridge to the start.
Continued in Struge with two large pizzas and some drinks in between cool

Of course it didn't go without rain, but we stayed dry under the inn's roof.

Žep/Travnik/Komen/Planinc
+6C at the junction to Žep gorge. Ascent on marked path to Travnik. Autumn colors, marele, golobice, mušnice, old chanterelles. Over Travnik, Turnovka, Hlipovec, Komen, rocky tower, Planinec to start. 5h:30min and 17km. Nice walking path. Slightly touches Komen ridge. Mists carried by wind over the rocky ridge make the rock slippery and we rather avoid it. Descent to Planinec and crossing Žep. At Planica radio playing and full outdoor "fridge" of beer. Then only descent to start.
nice autumn day +16C at start.

Smrekovec - Krnes - Komen

To the start and back we drove through so many municipalities that a few days before the trip I would have gone broke if they stopped me only in every third, let alone in every one. We started and finished at Dom na Smrekovcu, where we arrived from Ljubno. Since we're used to early hours, we did the uphill trip alone, except for two guys I met on the ascent to Smrekovec. The rest of the path via Krnes to Komen without issues, pure pleasure of wandering on soft grasses and forest paths. Pleasant weather on Styrian side, most of the trip sheltered, on Carinthian strong wind whose loud whistle accompanied us there and back. At the chapel below Komen I chatted with a nice couple, the male half recognized the princess and me from my posts here. If you're reading, best greetings to you both mežikanje

During descent we met often, distance mostly as per rules. Not much altitude gained, more length of path. The princess has her years, I'm no longer fresh youth, so I decided that beast and old timer start from highest point, so after forced rest we don't tire too much. Nice trip, still excites itself today because we pulled off something nice again nasmeh

On Sunday we parked quite early at Kramarica. First we went on the path via Bukov stan to the hut, then crossed Smrekovško ridge to its highest peak - Komen. We surprised ourselves with the time; reached the top in just over two hours. So we could have enjoyed the views longer, if flying ants hadn't driven us off the top. On the way back we climbed Krnes and Smrekovec too and in stifling heat along the road got to the car.

We started and also finished the path below Dom na Smrekovcu. Hut closed, path snowy and also muddy. On top of Smrekovec already looking for hats and gloves. Some photos, then hurry along the ridge towards Komen. Someone had gone before us and eased orientation. Krnes peak not yet visited, so we don't go there either, but along the lower marked path towards Komen. Where snow is drifted, you sink to your behind, where less it's slush. Komen top also wrapped in fog, so we go to the chapel.
After five hours walking we arrived soaked back at the start.

The world below Komen was of course wintery today. At least 1.5 meters of snow, need to carefully choose the path.

I started a bit below Atelsko sedlo, the road is indeed impassable from the junction below it.
Past Dom na Smrekovcu and onwards across Krnes to Komna. The snowmobile driver made our hike easier by ensuring nothing sank in. nasmeh

Return via the lower path.
Cold… wintery. mežikanje

For us sleepyheads there's nothing better than an afternoon hike in the hills. Especially if there's no crowd on the path and yesterday we met no one except one. A local mountaineer who explained that andesite is the rock found only on Komnu. Name comes from the Andes and it is of volcanic origin. And we learned that Komen is Kamen for locals. Nice.

Sun all the way and heat but some snow patch for refreshment. On the ridge sun, just a stone's throw in the valley (Črna) and on Uršlja heavy showers. And nice greetings.

Yesterday at half six from Beli vodi (Rebršak) to Smrekovec, over Krnes to Komen, since it was early also to Veliki Travnik. Conditions ideal for walking, met only 5 hikers, wet grass sometimes up to knees. Lots of birds, huge annoying flies. Blueberries will be. Total in seven hours 26km, almost 1600m ascent.

Free day at work I use for a hike in the Smrekovec range.
Hard to leave the warm bed, but I finally get up and go.
Park a couple of bends above Rebršak, right after the right bend where there's a water intake on the right, and left from that same bend a bridge crosses the ditch leading to the path.
Sunny morning on Smrekovcu turns to fog, I quietly ask the wind to blow it away for at least some more views. I walk through an enchanting forest towards Črno jezero, from there traverse under Komnom, catch an enjoyable trail that brings me under the Komen ridge. The ridge is harder than I thought! I bypass the first pinnacle left on the north side, climb the rest of the ridge. Wind takes pity on me at the top of Komen, so I can calmly munch and enjoy. Return via Krnes, Smrekovec, past Brložnik back to the car. Enjoyable!
Good thing I dragged myself out of bed in the morning!

Landmark below Krnes, path to the puddle is well followable.

I circle Črno jezero and photograph it from all sides, this one succeeds best for me, the sun pierces the mists just in time.

Soon Komen shows itself to me for the first time.

On the ridge of Komn, I bypass the first pinnacle as the handhold on the rock is wet, difficulty up to IV... for this pinnacle however jumps III and II, which I tackle.

Already the creature with tentacles and the little ridge are enough for the bag of wishes, but I believe everything else is similarly attractive. smile
