Koroska Rinka (Križ)

You can also reach Koroska Rinka from the Jezersko side. Start at the cargo cableway for Ceska koca and go to Ceska koca then to Ledine via Zrelo - well protected - cables, only before Zrelo there's snow - careful. Also on the path from Ceska koca to Zrelo there are quite a few cables. For the hut at Ledine head towards Oreselj and Ledinski vrh. Below the saddle signposts direct to Koroska Rinka. The path is marked as very difficult. It's well marked, well protected with lots of cables. For example Kočna, Rjavina have that many cables. Partly the path is crumbly, caution on return. Intended for really experienced mountaineers who handle cables well, helmet mandatory. At the top stamp with logbook. Path from hut at Ledine 3 hours 30 min. Of course you can choose direct ascent to Ledine via Slovenska pot - climbing - cables or easier hunting path, recommended for return to car. Direct to Ledine takes a bit over an hour, via Ceska more than half hour longer. Tour counts as full day.

The weather forecast for Wednesday was more than suitable for visiting the mountains. We leave the car at the parking lot under Rinka Waterfall. Above Frischauf Hut we head towards Savinjsko Saddle. To Mrzli Dol, we also warm up thoroughly because of the warm sun. Here branches off the secured path to Koroška Rinka. First we walk on rugged, strenuous scree to the entrance to the wall, where we put on the gear. The path from the cirque to the north ridge is quite demanding, protections in good condition, climbing passes quickly due to nice views. The path swings to the other side of the ridge, where it joins the path from the Ledine direction. Follows ascent along the north ridge. Path excellently secured, damaged cables replaced with new ones. From the summit follows descent on rugged path towards Mali Podi. Due to occasional fog, the views are all weaker. We descend through Turski Žleb. Path in the upper part very slippery - danger of stonefall. The lower climbing part is real pleasure. Also on some places damaged cable (rusty) doesn't bother too much. On the way to the valley we stop at Okrešelj. Coffee and Savinjčan in the green "bottle" fit very well...

Nice pictures, and nice day you caught. Well, I have Rinka and Mrzla Gora in the program for tomorrow, hope the weather will be at least like that.

Parked in Logarski kot while it was still dark, road ahead not passable yet. To waterfall on skis, then on foot. Skis on again above Savinja source and continue under TŽ, skis to backpack there and on with crampons and ice axe. At gully top meet four descending due to strong wind. Wind calms to Koroška Rinka top to my joy. Top enjoying views and memories of surrounding peaks. Skiing pure joy on ~15cm fresh powder on firm base. Gully rarely so good for skiing as today. Skis off above waterfall and on again below. Tour for soul and body.
Best from under nice Mozirska Planina, Janez.

Yesterday I did the above mentioned tour. Snow only crosses in Mrzli dol - easy. The climbing part of the path to Kriz is completely dry, protections in perfect condition. Descent through Turski zleb, all protections there OK too. Exit from the gully possible about 20m before end of climbing path, as scree below is dry. Same for entry to gully, which is 20m higher and avoids annoying climb on vertical pegs. Excellent weather all day and I just wish for more such days. LP

Tomorrow, Sunday, I plan to go to Koroska Rinka from Okreselj via Mrzli dol, then also to Kranjska Rinka and descent through Turski zleb. Interested mainly in new fallen snow, if any fell in KSA at all and how the path through Mrzli dol is maintained, any peculiarities?

klavdipo, new snow I don't know, but I was up on Wednesday and the path is very well protected. No peculiarities on the path, except some stone triggered by someone above, so helmet mandatory, if you'll take lots of photos harness useful.nasmeh)
Descent via Turski zleb, especially upper part, is "slippery"... at least for me. And if you're up there, visit the other two Rinkas too...they're "on the way".
Enjoy.

Today was a day for socialization. After three "no good morning" days it was time to go among people a bit. For some time planned repeat of Koroska Rinka from Okreselj, on descent add Turski zleb which I know only in winter conditions, not in summer. Start of course parking under Rinka waterfall, then to Okreselj, past shelter, into Mrzli dol and then left up scree to start of difficult secured path. Full 500m height, undoubtedly the most difficult in KSA, and for me the most beautiful. Picturesque passages, two natural windows (at least), rock sculptures, decent exposure and direct exit to summit, give it high place on the list. But for all that from Mrzli dol, if from Ledine you won't get all fully. Protections exemplary, day to shout about. Today no fogs at all (a bit for decoration on return), warm, almost hot. Descent from top annoyingly gravelly but not long, luckily, return through Turski zleb down also interesting. Definitely not recommend to inexperienced, as it brings everything: steep, annoying sliding scree entry, to exposed descents by pins with gravelly ledges, also on cables and pegs sometimes interesting as not fully ergonomic. Sometimes hang back a bit and trust the cable holds. Well, for experienced no big problems. Then zigzags down, stop at Koča na Okrešlju and to start. No big crowds today either, on top group of Croatian hikers who excellently handled surrounding paths and peaks (Darko from Osijek, if reading, thanks again for offered banana:tonguenasmeh, at Okrešlju of course all taken by Sunday hungry hikers, noise and shouting about food and drink quickly drove me down, despite ice cream. This is somehow not for me. I'll go again preferably on "no good morning" tour. New wish again: Hudi prask. Today guys loudly announced entrance to that path on Mrzla gora. Tomorrow just to work...velik nasmeh Calf will be grateful. Soul temporarily satisfied.

Today I went on the mentioned path, but also visited Turska gora, Brana and back towards Okrešlju. When I arrived around half past five in the morning at Solčava I first thought it had snowed at night. There they have a snow fairy tale all day, which we won't have for a while. On the way to the Rinkas it was necessary to put on crampons and take the ice axe in the upper part. At the start only with the ice axe. I also used winter gear under Brana at the exit from Kotličev. There I also found the rear part of a crampon, if someone misses it it's at my home. The hut at Okrešlju was open, so I got the deserved beer. Weather gorgeous, sunny without a breeze.

Hi ogo!
On Monday I plan to go to Križ and wonder if you can describe more precisely where the snow is, or where you used winter gear?

I used crampons from the "window" through which you see Kamniško sedlo i.e. a bit above the junction to the hut at Ledine.

Given that I walked this path yesterday I'd say crampons and ice axe (and especially knowledge of use) mandatory already from wall entry. Checked!

Today I went very early in the dark via Okrešelj and Turski Žleb up. Wanted to descend via Rinka to the other side and back via Savinjsko sedlo (of course first time). Went up because on this forum talk of patches of snow here and there and nothing more. Of course didn't find path over Kriz, and even if I would I don't think I'd descend, back over Turski Žleb also dangerous... so descended rather to other side to Kamniška Bistrica past bivouac under Skuta, over Žmavčarje and called transport back to Logarska. But at least whole... don't recommend to hikers without gear... well at least weather fantasticvelik nasmeh , will ask Garmont to teach me a bit, until then in winter stick to hiking tours (if I sink a bit no big deal)jezikmežikanje

As I already said in ZS to the "mountain lover", the greatest achievement of a mountaineer is to know when to turn back in time and for that I certainly congratulate you!
We'll surely arrange some tour.

Well, if turning back in time is the greatest achievement of mountaineering, then I really don't understand anything anymore. But I get what you actually wanted to say.

Quite irresponsible. Southern and northern approaches are a huge difference in our mountains - even southern ones can be icy despite dry path and very dangerous - northern ones are usually even more icy and snow doesn't melt on them at this time when there is no sun (sun is south).
