Hi,
if the weather holds, I'd do this tour over the weekend: Vrata - Luknja - Bovški Gamsovec - Križ - Pogačnikov dom - Vrata.

I'm mainly wondering if there are any more snowfields on the path that would require an ice axe.

Check the previous page about the path over Križ (from Dovških vratc all the way to Pogačnikov dom). Since you're going to Križ summit from the east, no issues with that snowfield I mention there. Other snowfields passable without winter gear, snow is soft, doesn't sink much, gentle terrain.

Path over Bovški Gamsovec (from Luknja over towards Križ) is supposedly dry, as other Kriške podi visitors told me on Sunday, maybe someone here on the forum knows more precisely. Good luck! Nice tour.

Today's conditions on Križ.

One hour's walk to the snow. In the lower bush section still some gaps, then nice to the summit - both on skis or foot. Morning behind Stenar still hard, elsewhere softens quickly.
Skiing conditions great, skis off at end of bushes.
Today removed the no-traffic sign on road to Vrata.nasmeh

PFranci, super nice photos, should have posted mine first from last weekend.

Forecast held! Saturday still heavy rain in Ljubljana and snow above 1400m, but just enough to cover tracks and make best TS this winter for me.

Sadly probably the last one here due to weather. Attaching some pics nasmeh

I push through this unpleasant part too and we are at bivouac IV6

Zasavčan, bit late but anyway.... Small snowfield at entrance can be bypassed by climbing few meters before on the left. No snow elsewhere. Good luck :-)

On Thursday ideal day for skiing from Križ. Snow nicely softened by noon, buttery on hard base. Skiable to overhanging pitch above waterfall, then walk down to valley. More at: http://www.gore-ljudje.net/novosti/126114/

Silvo, wonderful! What do you think, is it possible to walk to vratc in these conditions without winter gear and with snowshoes? Or what do you recommend if no skis but want to go there.

At the moment recommend ice axe and crampons. In shade, snow is frozen. Saw quite a few hikers with winter gear.

Not fresh but anyway. Friday afternoon to bivouac 4 - snow starts about 200 vertical meters below the bivouac. Saturday not too early jezik then further to Križ. First still on foot, then on skis to the first fixed rope a few meters below the summit. We didn't go further, as it was unenjoyable for us in these conditions. We skied directly under Stenarska vratca and further to the valley. Not many people. Except the family that kept us company in the bivouac, everyone on skis. Super day.

On Saturday to Križ, on skis to the fixed rope to the summit with proper gear. Early hour recommended. Rok and I had perfect conditions for ascent and ski descent, as we started from the saddle at 3.30 nasmeh

From Stenar over the saddle I continued to Križ. Part of the path is still under snow and caution is needed. Rainbow over Triglav persisted until arrival at the summit.
Descended the long snowfield and with one short break slid to Češka plata. Followed a hot descent to Vrata.jezen

On the whole today's loop: Vrata, Luknja, Gamsovec, Stenar, Križ, Vrata I met only four hikers.velik nasmeh

From Kriški podi from home yesterday I headed to Križ. Path is nice, well marked, dry rock, protections perfect. Even refreshed at the water spring above the hut. Plenty of water, surplus drains to the lake below. Path not too long - hour and half to Križ top. Before summit squeeze through that famous narrow passage. If too many, have to climb a bit on right side of overhang. I went through. At top again company - all beautiful girls.
To Pogačnikov dom we have only half an hour.1
Pihavec was in the option.2
There was nothing—repeated collapses—but I had all safety equipment ready.3

Yesterday on Križ. Enjoyed sun and quite good views. Path from Stenar direction traversing under Križ wall is very unpleasant especially for descent. Need to cross some rocky ledges covered with plenty of fine gravel, generally terrain very crumbly and special caution required. Otherwise nice panoramic peak.
