Don't worry, you're not the only one. I'm wondering if we'll see these pictures in 100 years. To me only paper matters.

These pictures we definitely won't see in 100 years. mežikanje
Paper ones from 100 years ago are already very faded. At least the ones I have.

To avoid opening a new topic. We went to check behind Lužnica. From Planina Kuhinja over Leskovca. Right on the path. Since it snowed previous days, we expected quite a lot of snow. We weren't mistaken. At the first bench we put on crampons, a bit further in the steep section also ice axe. Lots of snow back there. It'll take a few more days to settle. It had avalanched the previous day. On Tuesday. We had nice weather. With little wind. And quite a bit of postholing. Except where we went to Maselnik the snow was hard. After a few hours walking we were at Maselnik. Nice views we had. And stayed quite a while on top. When you're there you see real conditions. We descended the ascent route. We were the only hikers. Krn was deserted too. 29.03.2023. On top of Maselnik we surprised two chickens that are still white in color. Real winter is still in the mountains.

Great, Darinka! On pics 22 and 23 it's probably Peak above Peski. Do you have any pic from Maselnik towards Krn?

Another autumn one from about a week ago. To Peak above Peski and Krn from Planina Kuhinja. Warm, few people on a workday, chat with friendly hikers from Drežnica, last autumn flowers, full of ripe rose hips, sea of views, snake on descent, lots of cows and sheep on pasture, view of both Krn lakes - that's a summary of a wonderful day in remote but very beautiful places that we like to return to. nasmeh

Today circular tour from Planina Kuhinja towards the lake in Lužnica and visit Srednji vrh, almost Peak above Peski, then over Batognica to Krn saddle, from there descent towards Kuhinja with a detour also over Kožljak. As I said I didn't quite reach Peak above Peski, I was just a little short of the summit, but unfortunately had to turn back. I tried to climb the southern ridge, which is quite demanding and probably a smarter decision would have been to go from the other side, where an easy path leads to the summit. But what's done is done, I wanted to try something different and spice up the day a bit.
Otherwise snow is nicely firm in places, softer in others but overall okay. Almost all day dense fog persisted, except for about 15 minutes of clearing when I tried to reach Peak above Peski. Consolidated snow cover starts around 1700m altitude, or on the southern Krn slope even higher because it's sunnier. Crampons and ice axe are needed for this route.

First to Krn, just in case it starts raining. The path is completely dry. Descent and to Batognica, some snow patches that can be crossed or bypassed without issues. To Peski I go along the northern side with winter gear, there's ice here and there. To Peski, and back via Lužnica. Quite a bit lower a large rock broke off from Maselnik.

Finally this tour without Peak above Peski came up.

Path (almost) completely dry, 2 small snow patches (between 1600 and 1900 m.a.s.l.), which can be walked or bypassed. First to Krn, descent to junction and then over Batognica descent towards the lake. Tour top, views as far as you want.

Lunch at Dom pri Krnskih jezerih and return to the valley.

But I'm surprised by departures towards Krn at 12-13 o'clock, 30 degrees, average age 50+.

Planina Kuhinja -Leskovca-Škofič -Mali Peski - Peak above Peski- Batognica. Descent via usual path to start. No crowds (4.11). Only two hikers went to Krn and returned at the same time as us. The day was really sunny. Sky without clouds. And no wind. Peak above Peski waited. About three times Marijan and I turned back in the snow below the summit. Because it wasn't safe to go further. Now we stopped there for a bit longer. Also at Batognica, where we viewed the cavern, or what's left of it. This year no one brought a candle to the monument at Mali Peski in memory of fallen soldiers. The barrier at the planina was raised. I had inquired before, otherwise we would have gone elsewhere. A hiker said it was raised one day in summer. He took the note. The Italian hiker didn't know and didn't take it. On descent it was lowered. That happens too.

Yesterday to Krn from Kuhinja past the lake in Lužnica, below Škofič to Peski (crusty northern slopes with little snow, crampons recommended), then to Prag and Batognica, from Škrbina to Krn. On Krn a sample of snow, paths are snowy, no ice on descent.

Pl. Kuhinja, lake in Lužnica and right below the wall of Škofič to the ridge. For a while I walk along the ridge top then descend towards the monument and continue to Vrh nad Peski. Crampons mandatory, as in places only the points gripped. It wasn't cold. After Vrh nad Peski I return and to Batognica and descend below Krn. Because of full moon it was possible to descend to the start without headlamp.
