hi.

I'm interested in the path to Lepenatka and V. Rogač where I'm heading on Sunday. How much snow is there and how icy is the path?

thanks for the info

Yesterday, on 27.1.2008, we were on Lepenatka and V. Rogatec. We ascended from the church of St. Lenart and made a circular route past the saddle Kal. The path to the top of Lepenatka is pleasant and completely dry. To the saddle Kal there are still some meters of frozen snow, but due to the easy terrain it poses no danger. The climbing path to the top of Rogatec is mostly dry. On the ridge below the summit caution is needed due to some icy patches on the path. The path to Špeh is icy and snowy - mandatory crampons. Without crampons necessary descent on the ascent path. lp. Franci

Yesterday, 03.03.2008 over Sedlo Črnivec almost to Gornji Grad, then left to the church of sv. Lenart, where I parked. Nice and worth seeing church from the 14th century. Left of the church uphill to the level area named Ugovška jama. Immediately after the hunting hide on the left I find an unmarked trail that brings me to the new shepherd's hut under Lepenatka. Then across and a bit to the right and along the north side, where there is still some snow, to the top. Due to the gale-force wind on the top I soon retreat to the bench in front of the bivouac at Kal. Past Špeh and down to the valley again to the church. Really nice and panoramic tour as my photos also show.

Oh, nice experience. Looking at these photos I relive almost the same trip from 14 days ago. Just that my husband and I wanted to go to Rogač from Kal too, but gave up due to slip risk somewhere near the top. Path was quite icy, but we said, we'll visit it again in May. Then there was still quite a lot of snow on Lepenatka and those nice lilies weren't blooming yet. We took equally wonderful photos that brighten my evening when bored. Good luck!

Maybe we'll meet on Rogač in May. LP Starakapa

Maybe someone knows how difficult the path to Rogač (Rogatec) is. At the bivouac on Kal it says it is very demanding and I'm interested in comparison with one of the paths. Thanksnasmeh

Hello!
Let's say, compared to the climbing path on Raduha, the path to Rogatec was definitely really harder for me, since here you have only 4 pegs (I think no more), the rest free climbing, for me it was quite strenuous and quite demanding (it doesn't say very demanding for nothing), as you climb over the top of the rock - small ridge, you have no option for any protection, so hands and feet are those that safely lead or pull you forward. If you enlarge the Rogatec photo, my husband and I climbed the 1st and 2nd peaks, then he suggested that we return, as we had reached the place where with a small slip you would slide down. Sometimes it's smart to give up. But as we climbed up, I pondered to myself ... I'm not returning this way again..., but there was nothing left but to go back. The path was even more strenuous, as the possibility of slipping greatly increased. Who would think that such a small mountain offers so many traps.
Sometimes you rush headlong upwards..., and good that you sometimes give up. If I say that my husband and I last year walked the Karavanke, conquered quite a few two-thousanders in the Kamnik-Savinja Alps, this Rogač was the worst for me. Probably in summer or when there is no snow it's different, maybe easier. Also in the Sidarta guidebook (publisher) I read that they discourage the winter ascent. So much for consideration, everyone does it their own way! Good luck!

Last year I did the mentioned tour with my father and son. Unfortunately, we only saw upon our return that we had made a mistake, as we simply missed the above-mentioned sign. We did the tour in the direction Sv. Lenart - Zg. Špeh - V. Rogatec - descent via the mentioned rocks to saddle Kal, then again to Špeh and past the church to the valley. The path from Špeh to Rogatec winds through the forest and is partly quite steep, but the descent on the mentioned "climbing" path did not seem too hard to me, as even the son (6 years) managed it without problems. True, we did the tour in dry conditions in autumn, for winter it is probably confirmed that they discourage it. Anyway, from Rogatec there is a beautiful view of Lepenatka and the Kamnik Alps. Today I was on Rogatec. I started at Sv. Lenart and went past the Kal saddle and then up the climbing path to the top. The climbing part of the path has already dried, so no major problems. In wet it's probably quite nasty because there are no protections. I returned via the path past Špeh. That path is much muddier compared to the climbing one.

Hello!
I don't know if I should believe this path description, since the photos are from the Rogatec path description and I think they don't show current conditions. No offense, current conditions for me are pics from the day you summited. Good luck.

I was on Rogatec on Sunday, 20.4.; that's when photos were taken.
Today I made the full path description published in "seznam gora" section.

On Sunday, 4.5., we climbed from Sv. Lenart church over Lepenatka to Kal and via ZZP to V. Rogatec. Path to Lepenatka (over pasture) full of gentians worth seeing and good photos! Path to V. Rogatec deserves ZZP label and more pegs wouldn't hurt. From V. Rogatec wonderful view on surrounding peaks and rocks clad in bright yellow avens. Path to Šeh steep and slippery at start but soon nice flat trail and later farmstead worth sitting at. Nice Sunday trip not too strenuous, V. Rogatec path great prep for high tours!

Well, for holiday end assault on mentioned beauties, start from Lenart village, then first Lepenatka, descent to Kal saddle and then very demanding path (marked so and true esp. surroundings) to Rogač top. Descent circular path to Špeh and then down past Sv. Lenart to vehicle. Weather cloudy all way but no rain, views interesting anyway. Happy hikers Goran and Marko K.

I've observed Rogatec several times from Kamnik Savinja Alps, want to know if climbing path to Rogatec similar to some in Kamniks e.g. from Grohat to Raduha climbing one didn't seem hard to me. Hiked quite a few hills in Slovenia and three-thousanders in Austria to Rogatec I'll go as soon as time allows. BEST REGARDS,

Oh, if you have so much experience, no problem... caution mandatory everywhere in hills anyway.
Just happy on trail so Dead Monk revives a bit.

Well, second time this month excellent circular path from Lenart to top of Lepenatka, followed descent to saddle Kal, then along very demanding path to top of Rogača, excellent views and proper mountaineering, then along circular path towards Špeh and to Lenart. Very nice morning tour recommended by Himalayan climbers S.M and M.K. This time no pics due to digital camera failure. Enjoy.

Today we went first time to Lepenatka and v.Rogatec and no regrets as it's really nice tour worth seeing just some caution on climbing path won't hurt. At top nice warm weather and nice views on surrounding mountains awaited us, attaching some pics.

Despite the bad forecast, I was on both summits today. Started early from Črnivec in fairly nice weather, in between twice experienced a snow storm. My decision for this path was at least two weeks too early, on shady sides still snow that sinks in.
