Tinky, could be you met Boyd. He's been living in Slovenia for a very long time, married somewhere in the Zadrečka dolina valley. He even attended the alpinism school at PD Kamnik.

Today Rogač had quite some visitors. Start at the church, then to Lepenatka, descent to Kal and then to the top of Rogatec. Up to here the path is without issues. Descent towards farm Špeh is tricky. Already wet it's problematic, now it's icy too....Two preferred to return back over Rogatec to Kal.
Nice day with high alpine flavor!

We started the path at the church, then past farm Špeh to Rogatec, then difficult to Kal and to Lepenatka, back to the church. Path without problems, just a bit of snow towards Rogatec summit, but doesn't hinder. Dream day without wind and clouds. Regardscool

"With high alpine flavor", wrote garmont and maybe that's why these two peaks were mostly deserted on Saturday, because in summer months higher ones than them are more attractive. Or maybe deserted because weather forecast included showers and paths to Rogatec when wet are not pleasant at all. After their first visit I said that it holds about the tame Lepenatka and daring Dead monk, obviously it also holds that from here up I always come back cleansed.

We went the "classic": from St. Lenart to Lepenatka, descent to saddle Kal, onwards to Rogatec and return past Zg. Špeh to St. Lenart. No need to write about conditions, in nice weather enjoyable path to Lepenatka, onwards to Rogatec the path marked as very difficult gives that high alpine flavor.
That airy ridge (probably) really isn't that long, but it always confirms to me again that this monk is not dead at all, as I always have too much trouble with him checking that my legs are too short and views to the valley quite "deep".

Anyway, not to ramble, worth a visit even in summer, just pick a nice day, because showers in between are refreshing, sure, but the path down becomes very muddy and slippery. But true, then mushrooms grow… and those mushroom pickers we met in the morning were surely happy about it.

And a wanderer's greeting!

On New Year's morning, these two peaks "with a high mountain taste" were a good choice.
We started at the end of the road, ascent to Lepenatka where it was blowing stormily, descent to Kal saddle and towards Zg.Špeh farm. Then unanimous decision to ascend Rogač. The path is partially snowy and icy (chains stayed in the backpack). Descent would probably be much harder. Nature took care of our safety with that stormy wind.
At the top, views that you'd stay up there if....
Descent via the difficult path to Kal. The ridge that worried me most is completely bare today - tomorrow probably different, snow forecasted.
In the bivouac at Kal they celebrated New Year's Eve. We met no one, but the entry at Rogatec revealed someone was already up there today.
The road is maintained, storm damage still visible.

I also spent this 'day with high mountain taste' on Sunday.

In the morning I drive from Luč direction and park at Špeh, actually half a km further towards Kal saddle, ignoring the no-driving sign. zadrega Really, from there it was only 10 minutes to Kal saddle, though I searched a bit for the path.

When I reach the saddle I head straight to the 'very difficult' to Rogatec. Up to the ridge itself it doesn't seem 'very difficult' to me, rather 'a bit more demanding'. Well, as often, the sweets are saved for the end. When I reach the ridge where it starts blowing really hard, there's a short secured section (pegs) for the hardest part. Technical difficulties are conditionally over then, just a short narrow exposed ridge section with respectful depth left and right awaits, before the path turns into forest and to the summit it's more or less normal walking.

At the top I linger a bit, sign the book, chat a bit with a group of female hikers and when they leave I stay alone. Suddenly from Špeh direction appears - a dog. zmeden It didn't bark, just walked confusedly around the top, probably looking for the way on, not knowing one has to stop at the summit, rest a bit, enjoy views... mežikanje After it, in a minute or two, comes the owner and asks if it already jumped on me. zmeden velik nasmeh zavijanje z očmi

When I'm about to go down I meet another gentleman with whom we discuss the surrounding peaks - Raduha, Olševa, Ojstrica, Planjava... we don't know what that is left of it (at home on internet I learn it's Konj and Rzenik) and what's right of Ojstrica (Veliki vrh). Then I remember that big plateau with shepherd huts right of Lepenatka is of course Velika Planina.

The path to Špeh is quite steep, plus it was muddy. Well, at Špeh I realize I gained nothing by breaking the ban since I had to walk to the car anyway. When there, I go once more to Kal and then to Lepenatka. Similar views, just Raduha behind Rogatec, wouldn't recognize Olševa as Rogatec covers it half, Velika Planina practically under my nose. I descend to Kal and to the car. At Špeh cows block the road. I honk a bit - nothing. mrk pogled Well then I get annoyed and press the horn hard and several times in long intervals, then they start retreating. Recipe for the future! cool nasmeh

In Kamnik I stop for beer and ice cream then home.

On Saturday, 15.6.2013, we went up this path to Rogatec summit. First we conquered Lepenatka peak, then ascended Veliki Rogatec via the ridge climbing path.

The climbing path is very nice and on the ridge quite adrenaline-pumping, big smile. Climbing gear not needed, but I recommend a helmet due to the possibility of falling rocks. It is definitely easier to ascend than to descend it.

I'd also like to praise the markers, as the marks are new and quite frequent. At the same time, the paths are also nicely signposted with direction signs, so the chance of getting lost is very small.

Pictures from the hike can be viewed on the Planinsko društvo Matica Murska Sobota website: http://www.mojalbum.com/pdmaticams/20130615-lepenatka-in-rogatec-plezalna-pot/lepenatka-levo-in-veliki-rogatec-desno/20860619

Yesterday we walked over these two beautiful hills. The path is dry, except for a few small snow patches where caution is needed. Otherwise it is a real paradise for lovers of photography and views, and you don't have to walk far.

Yesterday on Rogač. Circular tour: Sv. Lenart-Lepenatka-climbing-Rogač--planina Zg.Špeh-Sv.Lenart. Path to Lepenatka offers nice views, same on Lepenatka summit. Climbing path is short and a bit adrenaline-inducing in two places. Has very difficult rating which could be discussed, ridge narrows a bit in two places and caution needed crossing as no protections, but nothing demanding as very short. Maybe could be 2 or 3 pegs but even without no major issues. Traces of last year's fire visible below summit. Summit has nice view of KSA. Descent to planina Zg.Špeh steep and uncomfortable esp for knees and ankles. Before Sv.Lenart church water spring to quench thirst which is bad these days.
