I'm interested in current conditions on this trail, and how's the cirque? Best regards

I looked into Matkov kot from different heights - haven't been in it. By estimate - valley nicely snow-free up to the last ascent, which is usually full of snow. Sending you a photo - really from afar, but conditions as usual for this time (if you're regular visitor you'll know) Best maybe someone was there recently - otherwise it seems to me there are fewer and fewer visitors in this beautiful valley (which is sometimes good)

Last year I was there on this day, conditions were completely different, the shaft was fully formed, my layman's estimate 15 m circumference and 7-8 m depth! Now I doubt a bit looking at your picture that the shaft is already formed! But I'll go check anyway, because in this valley it's always nice, no crowds! Thanks for the pic! Best regards

Zamet, from the pics it seems the chimney isn't there yet - but it will start forming with the current thaws. Usually we checked it out beginning of June! Best (first pic is super) I always remember the difficult - at least for me, descent from the top of Mrzle into the shaft!

Two weeks ago we were at the Škaf when it broke through the bottom. It was about 20m and 8-10m wide. Very nice, only the rocks move. Good to have helmets.

Today, besides many visitors to Matkov Cirque, I visited the Škaf. According to fellow hikers, it's about 20m deep, approx. 6-7m wide and has already broken through the bottom. The snow patch to the Škaf can be crossed without special gear at current temps, and on descent we can "ski" down it with some skill. Best mountain greetings!

Today I visited Matkov Cirque aka the forgotten cirque with my girlfriend . Weather was fantastic, sometimes very warm. Old snow base still holds human weight, in my case 85 kg. On the old snow base there's about 25 cm of new snow, but not problematic for walking as it's dry. No tracks before, now there's a trail to the hut just before the end of the valley so off we go for a walk while the weather's nice. Attaching some pics

Jure, how far can you drive by car - is the road closed beyond the barrier for vehicles?

I parked where the road branches off to the tourist farm. There's a barrier, but it's always down, somewhere in the torrent bed.

Geppo, if you're up there every year, how does it compare to last year. To me it seemed very very deep last year. Regards

Last year I wasn't at the shaft. The height changes by a few meters for sure. I've seen one so deep it felt like looking into a factory chimney. This year the snow height (shaft top) is slightly lower than the logbook.

I was up on May 1st, bottom not broken through yet. About 10m deep, but didn't hang around nearby much due to lots of falling rocks. Would warn about deep crack in avalanche about 20m below top, runs from middle of avalanche to right wall side, about 0.5m wide. Wonderful trip, my better half even more surprised by wild tour end than me.

On latest (Geppo's) pics much less snow than 10 days ago and Jezera wasn't running down road yet then, though tried a bit...

You're right robi14! Snow melts and settles fast. Despite early morning it was fully south-facing. That crack is quite visible so you can avoid it. Warning spot for inexperienced hikers. Also dangerous to waterfalls with snow. Water made tunnels under snow, can collapse under load.
