Which shop in LJ or surroundings is in your opinion best stocked with mountaineering gear (ice axe, crampons, helmet, clothes, shoes...). I was in Iglu in BTC but they don't have much choice. Thanks for opinions and LP.nasmeh

Michael66 If they have nothing for you at Iglu sport then don't go hiking!

Michael66, Iglu sport is really sometimes poorly stocked or they sell whatever they have. I think that we near the western border prefer to go across the border as they know other brands too, not just Karimor or whatever.
In Iglu for me only 5% of articles when it comes to clothes – it's a darker theme, they have a good catalog but you can't buy much from it, I don't know why.....

For me Iglu is still top (in LJ area), but it complements with Kibuba where you can order lots and they order directly from manufacturer for you.
True we hide from abroad.

P.S.: Otherwise I was just yesterday spending in Iglu... source spinner backpack and another 3 liter bladdervelik nasmeh

BT88. Yeah that's exactly what I meant. In catalog and on their website tons of items-up to 20 pcs e.g. ice axes,crampons,helmets...,in store (BTC) only 3 or 4 types of mentioned items. Maybe other Igluzmeden stores in LJ better stocked.

I fully agree solidly, how will such person manage in mountains, how, better stay home, otherwise shops aplenty: http://www.pd-sloga.com/index.php?option=com_weblinks&view=category&id=35&Itemid=96

Although I've walked most SLO mountains and some across border (quite a few solo) haven't got lost yet,ha,ha. Well apologize to all for whom such questions seem impossible. Just follow principle asking no sin and more heads more know. After all this section for that. Thanks all for opinions and suggestions. LP.mežikanje

If item you found in catalog not in store you can order it too. I last week bought Petzl Bongo rock hammer. Ordered in Iglu BTC Tuesday got Thursday. In short very satisfied with them.

Yeah sure, if this is a forum it's right that we mountaineers, alpinists comment a little on the gear topic, otherwise look in Udine at the Pyramid INTERSPORT, which in Slovenia is a mouse against them, maybe technical tools maybe a little less. But clothes though awesome Mammut, Mellos ok brand in Sloveniamrk pogled Salewa.... mountaineers haven't even heard of it oh well...nasmeh

Since we're already talking about gear, I'm wondering what to watch out for when buying a helmet. Lp

Flapho was asking for OPINION on stock levels of shops in lj... I usually get what I need gear-wise in kibuba and promontana (they know their stuff, call other stores...), poles are solid also in hervis, anapurna elevated staff, in iglu as you come across, pohodnik once and never again..

Helmet is helmet. Those on sale must be or are certified. What you'll pay attention to is mainly your subjective choice. The lighter and trendier the helmet etc. the more expensive. Most important is that it's certified.

11.8.2009 Hi,

maybe someone knows if right across border say Beljak, Celovec or Trbiž Italy there's some shop for hiking and alpinism.

LP

Best regards!
In Beljak the best stocked shop of this type is GIGASPORT.
Since December at the end of upper Trbiž there's open highly specialized alpinism or mountaineering shop ALPSTATION.
