Nabois / Monte Nabois Grande

Without Zajzera you really can't go for long. This beautiful valley, now quite solitary, attracts me especially in winter. Park at lot no. 2, then on skis to lower cable car station. Initially little snow but enough for skis. Up at freight cable car lower station about 40 cm, mostly dry, no base, but top 10 cm fresh powder. Best along path I think and it went, only under little bridge few meters on foot. Two Italians come roundabout, whom we greeted at parking below. Alternating pull track to Žabniška krnica. They turn up under S wall of Viš, I don't like it, go central cirque, now real labyrinth among boulders. Under Nabojs scharte turn right, under wall drop skis, gear for ascent. Go close to wall straight up, snow just right, higher used to be icy, now snow. Higher bit right to summer path only guessed. Here and there red dot reminds on path. Ah cold, no problem, about -15, just right not hotmežikanje. Sun shyly showed behind Viš. Summit blown, last meters mostly rock, chain helps. View nice but limited. Long not up, valley far below. Send sms greeting over mountains east, descend to skis. Change gear, ski down carefully. Upper part half meter dry snow, surprisingly little crust, among boulders follow track, from Pellarini hut sorta to cable car, bit walking, road OK again. Anyway top tour, when meter more snow even better. Winter ascent Nabois can't compare to couloir climbing but nice anyway. End stop at Sabina, always very friendlynasmeh.

Talking about the weather almost makes no sense, but it wasn't bad at all, even rain fell, so there will be no drought nasmeh. Started in Zajzera at parking 2, over the bridge and path 616 to Pellarini hut in Žabniška krnica. Then to Sella Nabois. Looked further, lots of snow on ledges, need another month to melt. Back to hut, turned in forest below to path 617 to Prašnik saddle. Nice path under Lastovice to clearing with hutlet, especially romantic in winter, no coincidence I go often. To Prašnik saddle and road back to Zajzera. Nice tour on slightly rainy Saturday

This time only Nabojsova škrbina was enough.3

Yesterday I got up very early, planned first time to Great Nabojs. Parked in Zajzera, strode along path 616 to hut where all were still inside. To avoid scorching sun, went on quickly, met only two nice snails and young chamois. Just below saddle left poles and extra gear, headed into rocks. After short climb reached grassy path winding under interesting rocks to last rocky passage. There belayed myself afraid wind would blow me off, surprised to meet Italian hiker there too. Didn't stay long on top, didn't sign either, no pen despite fairly new logbook. On way back photographed some flowers, at saddle noticed I wouldn't be alone all day as initially thought, but glad I had done mine already as it was getting hotter. Hut was livelier, after short rest went down, rested and cooled at stream. Spent nice day in touch with nature, mountains and self.nasmeh

Today to Great Nabojs from the north side too. From Zajzera to Pellarini shelter, branched off to "Via Nord" well marked only to saddle south of Little Nabojs (1535m). From there partly helped by translation of description by Alessio in same topic 26.8.2011. Tour is orientationally quite demanding in upper part. But this is a tour for hill connoisseurs jezik

Yesterday visiting Mr. Nabojs. Welcome warm, or better said hot. Morning in Zajzera waited for end of thunderstorm and started only when sun appeared, which I later regretted as humidity and heat turned Žabniška krnica into a sauna.
Ascent past Pellarini and along »cresta est«. Wonderful, unprotected and locally very demanding path. Hard to follow rare marks. Strayed several times but following ridge and logical passages brought me back to marks.
At top refreshing wind and nice views of entire western Julians ambience. Missed morning views of surrounding peaks so waited for evening glow, whose shine turns mountain faces into balm for the soul.
That day only »climber« on this nice mountain. Two jackdaws at top, chamois herd, three dippers and group of three »servus« gentlemen at hut. Otherwise peace, peace... peace and solitude, even silence fell quiet, planes all fly over eastern Julians and mountain experience is complete.

The Žabniška cirque with its majestic mountain backdrop is for our taste one of the most beautiful and enchanting corners in the (Western) Julian Alps. Whoever comes here once always returns... The only slightly "annoying" thing is walking the road to the lower station of the cargo cableway, but step a bit faster and it passes quicker nasmeh. But the pace slows on its own when you rise above the forest line and eye catches the majestic walls of Divja Koza, Mala Špica, Gamsova Mati, Viš… Great Nabois though, as if not distinguished enough and giants don't want it in their company, is separated from Viš and its more eminent neighbors by Nabois Notch.

But we climbed right onto it yesterday. Beautiful mountain it is. And it has one big "misfortune", being neighbor to 350m higher Viš and thus somewhat neglected (even among hribi.net folks?). Unfairly! Because Nabois has everything the greats have!nasmeh It even has something more than its proud neighbor! Beautiful view of the mighty Viš wall that elicits admiration and doesn't leave you indifferent...

Yesterday on this path we experienced all the nicest there is... gorgeous weather, lavish vistas, complete solitude, only chamois kept us company... Can't remember when we last (if ever) met so many...

A view that slows the step... :-)1

Nabois is a bit lower than neighbor Viš which overshadows it but everything around here is so beautiful that access to it is still wonderful. Snow no longer makes problems neither on classic approach through Žabniška krnica, even less on ridge variant. Hut is open, they pour Laško velik nasmeh. Even GSM catches Slovenian operators without issues. Water along path is more than enough so no need to drag special supplies nasmeh. Approach from Zajzera from Mazzeni bivouac side still has extensive steep snowfield right below saddle.

From Zajzera along road, then right to Via Nord. Path from "svicr" description unchanged. Further on still all as before. Some cairns found, otherwise find way yourself in wide wall. In fog not possible. Green chamois ledge took me to eastern ridge, then summit and back to Žabniška krnica past Pellarini hut to valley.

Just before the snowfall I managed the ascent to Nabois, afterwards it could be much harder.
Above Zajzera it was foggy, but it didn't bother me. Even on a clear day, it would be more or less in shade.
To the Pellarini hut there was a track, further on no more, but not difficult. Snow was south-facing up to below the Nabois Notch, higher dry on hard base. Wind that occasionally pulled from above Špranja was not particularly annoying.
Descent by the ascent path.

I thought the king of W. Julians was Montaž, Great Nabois his some third nephew. (Of course not underestimating Igor's ascent difficulty.)
