Via Nord (17.08.19)

Up to 1734m the path is marked, from there onwards at least for me as far as I saw today the best is Stritar's route description. A little descent and left to the middle of the gully. Right over the edge and left upwards through dwarf pines. Left traverse of the gully and soon enjoyable scrambling in the couloir system begins. I went probably a bit my own way, towards the top I traverse right and exit to the summit from the right side. Easier variant is to traverse left lower to the eastern marked ridge which leads from the direction of Pellarini hut. Belays are plenty, it's hard to say that this route, if you tackle it this way or exit left, is properly graded II. Continued to Viš via NW scree.

Great Nabojs (Cima Nabois Grande 2313 m) – conditions 10.8.2022,

it is a mountain in the shadow of Viš, because its much higher and mightier neighbour is always visited more and earlier, that it is in the shadow – well not quite literally, but Viš to the south almost covers it completely. However, the trail to Great Nabojs from Zajzera to Pellarini hut is friendly and pleasantly shady, from the hut onwards the mountain visit in summer is indeed hot, but very interesting, as we can do a loop tour again – up one way and down the other.
Just as the ridge and normal paths to the Great Nabojs summit have long existed, now from the valley, besides the usual comfortable path under the cargo cableway, they have traced a new one to the right of it going mostly through forest, crossing only some parts of the lower scree fields and running right of the main gully under Pellarini, viewed upwards. It is marked with large red dots and directional arrows "Rif Pellarini", at the start as part of an educational trail (The forest sound), also marked with signboards and occasional descriptions on them. In the upper – final part it is somewhat steeper and wet in places, but there are rope protections installed at two spots, otherwise dwarf pines are always at hand.
From the hut onwards: The ridge path – now called Via Alpinistica Gasparini-Florit (difficulty reaches I. at some spots and some scrambling on all fours, nothing more), is fairly well arranged, marked, equipped with steel cables and well secured across the transverse gully, while the usual normal path (Via normale) much less so, the marks are faded or even disappeared. In the final ascent section under the summit where both paths join, there are again new nice steel cables installed … or maybe just I haven't been there for so long that they seemed new to me.
In short – to summarize: nice, interesting and not too difficult mountain trip with wonderful views and some different views on the Viš and Montaž mountain groups – that's why so many nice photos were taken.

farewell to the friendly Pellarini hut and with nice impressions from today's excursion50
here, about 100m below the hut, we choose right - the old marked path into the valley51
this one - the more demanding ascent variant to Nabojs will wait for the next visit52
in the valley, at the start there is some parking confusion because the Italians are renovating roads towards Višarje or. Pellarini53

...amid filling sandbags, night "duty" monitoring hydrological data, refilling bags and those most horrific scenes - while helping the affected, we still took one day "for the soul" on a sunny Sunday. Because the forecast was better there, and also out of respect for our GRS we went to the neighbours...

Great Nabojs is a nice viewpoint, but right next to the higher Viš it somewhat gets lost. And it is probably much more neglected. But worth a visit. Especially the ridge path is quite for connoisseurs. nasmeh

Yesterday to Nabojs via Chersi then descent to the valley past Pellarini.

On Chersi I struggled with what Mašer calls "steep and dangerous snowfields". Once I had Studenci behind me, the snowfields did not seem problematic, either bypassed them on the left or on sufficiently wide edge ledges. Behind the cirque, in the last traverse under the saddle, the situation changes, with much pondering and a bit of alpinism knowledge one could still avoid them, but I preferred to cross with winter gear. To Nabojs the snow problem disappears, at the beginning one has to avoid another smaller snowfield, about 20m below the summit there is another tongue, but also that one is nicely bypassable. At Pellarini I abandoned the plan to go around Lastovice, but the lady in the hut kindly treated me. Car to car almost 11 hours in these conditions.

Yesterday to Nabojs via Via Nord.
No snowfields on the route.
In the upper part below the wall, before exiting to the chamois ledge, quite gravelly slabs.
Exit to the right, along the grassy ledge, below the cross.
The wild world of the Western Julian Alps in all its beauty.

Last year I told myself that the next visit would be via the north face. "Via Nord". Descent wasn't defined then... it was more of a spontaneous decision on the ground for "Karlotovo". velik nasmeh

6.9.2025 and 7.9.2025
Starting point: Zajzera P3
This time a slightly different tour, a 10-year-old came with us, used to "all the bad stuff". We choose parking P3, for easier return, as we did a circular tour.
We follow first the thematic path marked with green dots, then blue markers, then join the new path to Pellarini hut. We ascend the ridge path, which is also a bit climbing, the gully is well protected. Towards the summit we climb the ridge, just below the top there are some fixed ropes. From the top we descend the normal path to Nabojs saddle, and via C.Chersi path to D.Majcen/D.Mazzeni bivouac. On this path there's quite some scree, and some ups and downs, need to be careful, the eager one was on permanent belaynasmeh. We arrive at the bivouac just as it gets dark (took 12 hours with breaksvelik nasmeh). At the bivouac there are also three Frenchmen, but enough spacenasmeh. In the morning we return "rested" to the car, the path still requires caution, and below the waterfall there's still some "gymnastics"velik nasmeh.
Conclusion, the little one says it was great velik nasmehvelik nasmeh
