Yeah sure that's it. Couldn't be anything else probably. If there's some other recipe somewhere, I'll forward it.

P.s. Could someone maybe help with advice, when I wake up in the morning I drink quite some coffee with milk right before the hike (we don't drink it every day), when I go on the hike I drink exclusively water while walking/climbing, food is zero, except if I'm really hungry I eat frutabela or a few raisins, because I can't stand sandwiches, since in general I eat only home-made food every day (vegetables + lean meat)... after the hike like this I look like I'm totally wastedmrk pogled, although I feel totally OK, now I don't know what's wrong with me is it salt, too little fluid, food, sleep....zmedenmany think this one won't stay upright long, because they say an empty sack doesn't stand upright, on average I do 600m per hour, hike lasts 10-12 hours too and around 2-3000m elevation difference. In the evening after the hike I always practice eating tuna with salt and bread.

100 people 100 answers. Understandable - different ones. Whatever suits each. Above all ... lots of drink. There's supposedly a book titled: "You are not sick - you are thirsty" zmeden
I practiced nutrition like this: light breakfast and at the start (and also in between) sandwich with good juicy (not dry) content. On ascent exclusively tea from thermos or hut. At the top yogurt, because usually at the top I don't have super appetite ... On descent - if there was a hut nearby - beef broth and additionally 1 tablespoon of salt inside. Only then some hoppy addition. Then Isostar till end of hike.
P.S. And the day before one magnesium 300 for the muscles that will work the next day mežikanje

@LG: do you drink enough? Try combining with some other food. If you drink coffee just out of habit, skip it sometimes. Hard to tell you what will work in your case, I can only say what works for me. Evening before hike I stuff myself with pasta (or anything with high carb content), for breakfast usually something on bread (muesli doesn't suit me best before mountain hikes), then on the way I drink very diluted Isostar (2-3l per day). During hike I don't eat much - every now and then some Frutabela and mandatory at least one sandwich (wholegrain bread, some spread, cheese, veggies..etc). Because as you said - empty sack doesn't stand upright.

LG, I had similar problems as you. In addition after returning from hike I was still shaking and cold. Now I don't use much water anymore, but only isotonic. Frutabela is ok. Banana I don't use, because then I burp strangely after them. Regards

"on average 600 elevation per hour, hike lasts also 10-12 hours and around 2-3000 elevation difference"
Maybe it's not the drinks and food that's to blame, but too much effort? After such hikes I think it's normal that in the evening you don't look fresh and rested.

10 hours is approx 5000kcal which is approx 20 "frutabel" (depending on which one you use).
I doubt you consume that many, so it's no wonder you "scuza".

My practice that works: 2l water, 1l isotonic with spoon of BCA added (for endurance) + salty pirina crackers/bobi plačke (due to salt, proven to help since childhood years), some quality protein bars (just so it doesn't burn you) and stew at hut on descent(if there's some on path); if not, on arrival in car some whey (whey proteins, for regeneration).
Sandwich (if any) exclusively in "vege" style, because otherwise I feel sick.
Multiply quantities based on your weight and gender. LP mežikanje

Start preparing for the tour already the day before with some pasta. Also more fluids. Then I treat myself to a proper breakfast (bread, butter, jam, white coffee) On tour combined water and isotonic drink (can make homemade), raisins, some energy bar, fruit,... After tour then a proper meal and enough fluids. Especially don't forget drinks and regular drinking! I say it's better to go to wc multiple times during tour than be dehydrated once.

Advice that you shouldn't drink coffee before tour is anyway nonsensical. It's like that you shouldn't drink beer after it. Whatever you advise and say how harmful it is and we must stop. Won't happen.

Without morning coffee, I wouldn't even get to the tour starting point, if I'm exaggerating a bit. mežikanje
And yes, big plate of macaroni day before some longer and strenuous tour does wonders. Proven. Usually I eat even two, one for lunch and then force myself a bit in evening.

On long mountain hikes (8-10h) with average 2500-3000 m elevation I have bladder with 2 liters isotonic (Isostar or similar) more diluted than recommended doses and honey waffles (lots of calories for little weightnasmeh. I also use some cereal-fruit bars and bananas. Drink 0.5l per hour regularly in small sips and eat around 150-200kcal/h, so to valley usually arrive sufficiently hydrated with enough energy.
In between usually eat at some hut vegetable soup with lots of salt and couple bread slices and with it drink half liter pure water. Day before for dinner abundant CHO meal (300gr pasta) and drink lots fluid with it for better glycogen stores.

I think those gels and isotonic powders are bullshit. For years I've been drinking only water on hikes and some Coca Cola in between, eating Turbo Katka bars, http://prisladkikatki.net/trgovina.html , much better stuff than various frutabels.
As for Coca Cola, much better buster and it lasts longer than various powders and gels. This year on the five-day crossing of the Karnics I drank only water and Coca Cola at huts. If I compare with previous hikes when I still used various gels and drank isotonics, I was much less physically tired this year, the hike was at least one time harder.
