We treated ourselves to a really nice ramble in the wild world at the foot of Veža. Mateja, of course we'll all head up there together sometime, there's still so much nice stuff up there. pika, you don't know how often I envy you. nasmeh

Ojstri Peak - today we introduce it to the other colleagues/girls with whom we sometimes share pampering in our mountains.
I think this peak in its history hasn't had such a large number of joint visitors...
The group hike on a sunny, warm, spring day was fully successful.
We shortened it a bit from planned, but it still lasted eight hours.

Hello.
I'm interested in how traceable the path to Ojstri Peak via Pečovski Valley and further to Planina Polšak is?

Hi
The path is well traceable at the beginning, then it completely disappears (at least I couldn't find it). But walls close in from both sides more and more, and logically it's towards the saddle. It's quite steep and sticks more to the left past fallen trees. Then at the saddle below Ojstri the path is found again, leading towards Ojstri.
Easier from the Sedelšak farm. That hunting path is well traceable to Ojstri.
From Ojstri onwards there's a well traceable path that connects to the one taking you to Pl. Polšak. To Sedelšak farm you can then loop back via the path from Pl. Ravne.
Sooner or later you'll figure out that everything connects, just need to search

A few days ago I checked out Slanice 1538m again.
From Račnik farm there's a nice view of the white, steep cliffs we climbed two years ago (22.10.2015).
I wanted to repeat this path again. The other participants agreed with the planned route.
At 7:30 we park in Podveža and up the steep slope on forest tracks. The start goal is: via Pečovski Valley to Ojstri Peak. More eyes see more and we found quite a few faded markers during the steep ascent. We climb to Ojstri 1371m. Next goal is now the hunting hut near Pl. Polšak. Some trouble, but we find it. From here descent towards Slanice 1538m.
More and more snow in the forest and we advance with difficulty. Snow sinks under us and where there are drifts it's over 50cm. We unanimously decide to stop the descent. We turn back and continue to Pl. Polšak. We eye Križevnik. Next time!
Next goal Smrekovec 1611m. We avoid Pl. Ravne. From here descent past the cross and to Sedelšak farm. After 7 hours back at start.
Sunny, windy, partly cloudy. There's still quite some snow on the path. Especially on shady, northern slopes and in forest.

In the morning, during the drive, some raindrops and cloudy. Higher up, quite a strong westerly wind cooling the hot forehead. Jezartica has dried and it's just mud and dirt. I think a bear passed by (at least judging by the size of the sunken paw prints). I climb to Slanice, look at Kačjak, Raduha and quickly onwards.
I visit Polšak Planina, Ravne. Didn't meet anyone on the way. Hot, black clouds over Dleskovec. I quickly descend to the car on the Lučka side. A few minutes before the starting point, a light shower catches me. After eight hours without any special breaks, I'm at the parked car. At Šmica camp I go to Savinja. When I take off my shirt, I pick off a big tick rushing across my belly.

In autumn it is a nice walk among the larches.

This part of the Savinja Alps is quite dear to me cool

Isolated, mysterious, wonderful and you always discover something new. Today we tackled the ridge again. Last time we descended it two years ago and that descent I liked more than the ascent. Today, ascent again, which we managed to hit quite well.
Somehow we managed to avoid the extremely steep section in the forest. So we nicely reached the ridge and continued along it. Climbing is nice, rock solid and "vegetation" not too big an obstacle. So climbing to Ojstri Peak was pure enjoyment for all.
Sitting on the summit, we watch black clouds and debate which route next?
First we check Jezartica and the decision is: let's go exploring!
We send Janez into the steep crumbly gully to check if passable. After confirmation, the rest tackle it. Demanding rock step, which the others climb aided by an old rusted piton we spot just in time. The other pulled-out one I accidentally grab near the wall. Gully quite loaded, reminding us of Hojnik's in Raduha. We continue along the ridge toward Planina Ravne. No more difficulties but steep with heavy rain clouds overhead. After about an hour we reach Smrekovec. Descend to the cross for a short break. Then descent to Sedelšak farm. This unmarked path still quite preserved after last year's catastrophic windthrow. Some fallen spruces across the path but passable...
After 6 hours 50 min back at start. Lucky with weather, just a few drops on skin. As for ticks, results soon known...

Last Saturday "pika" couldn't join the hike. But this Saturday we repeated the ridge and continued to Slanice.
Past numerous deep and less deep chasms. All still full of snow and ice. At Slanice we barely push through fallen spruces. We take a breath, snack on the warm Slanice rock with view of Raduha, Olševa, Kačjek, Križevnik...
We plan to descend the ridge toward Vavdi. We give up when searching for passages among spruces lying everywhere and probably will for a long time...
When already yellow from pollen dusting us as we crawl through fallen trees, our motivation is gone.
We find a hard-to-follow path and descend to Pečovski dol. Steep, wet, slippery. We are relieved when on the macadam road. In the Savinja we wash ticks, pollen and [go] for beer at Igla.
No rain, humid.

In morning fog we drive to Podveža.
Quickly we ascend toward ridge. Moments of sun. Steepness warms us properly. Traverses in forest slopes we cross carefully. Full of leaves, wetness, slippery.
When we reach the rock we stow poles. Rock still quite cold.
Along ridge we advance quickly enjoying climbing. Midway rest and snack in sun. Before Ojstri we descend to ledge connecting both summits. We don't climb Ojstri as it is in fog. We descend abandoned path through Pečovski dol. On the way we surprised spot in half-buried cavity a made water trough. Clear water flows into it via plank. Who last drank from this trough??
After a bit over 4 hours we finish nice loop.

In Podveža in the morning -7°C.
Zoran has long wanted Podveža and promise fulfilled. cool

First hunters' variant past Jezartica encased in ice and ascent to Ojstri. Hunters' path frozen, snow depth shady >900m up to 5cm. Visit hunters' hut, tea and snack on bench outside. Continue to Smrekovec, next break at cross on pasture. Follows descent to Luče. Lower part where last all crisscross fallen surprises with new logging track. Cross it, can't pick up path other side. Search awhile, then lower to annoying rocks of track. Soon scout higher but now go our way.
After cca. 13km and bit under 7 hours walking at car. Nice sunny day, path frozen throughout. Hiked without crampons and gaiters.
New Garmont high boots bought days ago at Herwis BTC (VIP price from 169EUR down to 99EUR) performed great on first tour. Size had to change from usual 45/5 to 47. These fit perfect!

Almost a year since last post and since yesterday wandered around here, gladly share some moments from loop Podveža - Ojstri vrh - pl. Ravne - Podveža 8.12.2019. Weather wonderful, ground good, rock warm. All paths and passages hiked without issues. These corners true hidden treasure.
