Greetings! On Sunday during the ski touring descent from Savinja Saddle somewhere in the upper half I lost crampons. Please, if someone finds them by chance, contact me. Thanks

Has anyone been to Sav. saddle these last sunny days?
Interested in conditions on the path. Any info welcome.

Friend who was up today said he came up without crampons and ice axe, though recommends them.
Snow icy in places, otherwise wet and sinking.
Given temperature inversion lasting few more days, snow probably even wetter in next days.

Had to check the latest snow conditions a bit, so in the morning we drive to Logar Valley and the day already starts with a surprise... nobody expected so much snow, at least in the valley not, so hiking starts already at the Mountaineers' Huteek (higher by car no go), track made the day before by Okrešelj caretakers, who also did not expect so much snow. From Okrešelj onwards the known story, really not nice to be first everywhere... this time I made the track to Savinja Saddle and due to extended walk below, Ledinski vrh postponed and "conquered" only on photo, hehe. Snow 30-40 cm, sometimes more, mainly in shady spots crust on top, below sometimes completely dry snow, otherwise compact snow, OK for walking, sinks anyway everyonemežikanje. Today many ski tourers at saddle and in gully, and few of us walkers... Weather morning cloudy, then nice clear sunny warm day, wind at saddle not too bothersome.nasmeh

Does anyone know if there's still snow at Okrešelj or from where onwards snow towards Savinja Saddle?

Path from turning point was dry on Sunday all the way to Okrešelj. Snow appears ca. 15 min walk beyond Okrešelj.

p.s. watch out for falling rocks at crossing to Mrzli dol!

Just looking at Rozka's pictures. Interesting that they push so into that end with trainees where two months ago a huge snow slab almost buried us, that pulled over the whole area and those larches.

Today from parking lot past the hut at Okrešelj and through Mrzli Dol valley to Savinja Saddle. Snow starts at around 1600 m. Surprisingly lots of it, so I could go practically straight to the top of the saddle. Morning snow was frozen, crampons gripped great, on return (around 12) snow was already balling up. First thought of going to Ledinski vrh too, but somehow no. As mentioned, real winter up there and will be for a while.

Savinja Saddle is in summer mostly used for crossing from Savinja to Jezersko side (or vice versa), but it can be a standalone goal with solid height, length and panoramic views from the top all around.

Yesterday I went up from Logarska Dolina past Okrešelj. There's one short snowfield on the way, soft enough (nice temps) to cross without issues. Flower lovers will find plenty here: gentians, alpine pasque, Kerner's poppy, Zois' bellflower... to hairy alpine sedge along almost the whole path. At the top enjoyed views and magic of solitude, only two ravens came to greet briefly.

Anyway, for a change no clouds accompanied me (this year they mostly do), so great day and nice trip.

Hi,
I hiked this trail two years ago, but I still have that wonderful amphitheater in front of my eyes today. It's really beautiful and I'll gladly return!

Next weekend (14.-15.1.) planning to go to Okrešelj hut and Savinja Saddle.
What's the snow situation, how much, avalanche danger?
Has anyone been there recently?
Will Okrešelj hut be open?

Hynek, haven't been to your mentioned destination, so just approximate info. No new precipitation forecast until the end of the week, so low avalanche risk. As far as I know, Frischauf Hut at Okrešelj closed (check before). Note Logarska valley and Okrešelj in shade most of the day this time of year. At 2000m (Savinja and Jezersko saddle) expect about 40 cm snow. Check fresh pics from Kamnik saddle here, was there Saturday - conditions probably similar. Maybe someone who was there replies with firsthand info.
Remember it's winter, bring all gear.

Up to Savinja no problem, 2.1. only icy to the spring, then enough snow. Crampons recommended.

to Okrešelj totally fine, no crampons needed, then more snow ahead if going to Savinja saddle-- for hut dunno if open- dunno how they do it in winter
